At the risk of exposing myself as a total social retard, I admit that I've got no idea how or when Kevin and Karen became insult names.

I don't have Twitter or Facebook. ATS is my only social media. I don't browse that forum that starts with 4.

After a year break from ATS, I returned to ATS and saw people making jokes about Kevin and Karen. I was like: "What the heck?" So I googled Kevin and Karen, watched some Youtube videos of a couple that dances. "What" I thought "is demeaning in a funny way about a couple of dancers?"

I believe the pre social media term is to be Rodney King'd.

I got into an argument with a Lakesha type over this. I was like ok what if we referred to all black women in a similar way and used her name. I can't remember what it was but it was like a Lakesha. Anyway she was flat out telling me it would be racist and yet in the same way using Karen isn't racist to her! I can't say that i wasn't surprised but damn.

Before my hip replacement, it was all I could do to walk from the car in the handicapped parking spot and by the time I reached the front doors I had expended all energy and pain control. And I only went to such a huge store if I had no other option. Those handicapped parking spaces were a life saver. My friend also had severe chron's and she would have accidents in store before she got back to her car.

"Karen" isn't color specific. But "Becky" is.
