Senator Chuck Schumer(D-NY): “As our heroes on the front lines continue their critical work, it remains clear that the country’s testing capabilities remain inadequate — we need a quicker, more-comprehensive testing infrastructure to track and respond to the virus,” Schumer said in a statement.
“The bottom line remains that without fast, free, and available testing in every community; expanded reporting; and a bolstered supply chain, the recovery we want will be much harder to achieve.”
Based on death certificate data available on July 2, 2020, 5.9% of all deaths occurring during the week ending June 27, 2020 (week 26) were due to pneumonia, influenza or COVID-19 (PIC).
This is the tenth consecutive week of a declining percentage of deaths due to PIC.
The percentage is equal to the epidemic threshold of 5.9% for week 26.
Stand-alone Covid-19 mortality is now down to 4.1%, which is below Epidemic level.
Mortality attributed to COVID-19 decreased compared to last
week and is currently at the epidemic threshold but will likely increase as additional death certificates are processed
*Data during recent weeks are incomplete because of the lag in time between when the death occurred and when the death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS and processed for reporting purposes.

The CDC forgot (?maybe intentionally?) an important aspect in their statement of caution regarding # of deaths increasing.
The number of people testing "positive" will continue to increase faster than the total number of deaths will increase.
The percentage of specimens testing positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, also increased from last week. Mortality attributed to COVID-19 decreased compared to last week and is currently at the epidemic threshold but will likely increase as additional death certificates are processed.
They are also including Pneumonia and Influenza deaths with covid-19 deaths to produce the reported total dead of covid-19.
