Why so late. Didn't they know its the Chinese military intelligence involved with face recognition ?

India’s government banned nearly 60 Chinese mobile apps on Monday, including TikTok, citing national security concerns, after a deadly clash between their militaries this month raised tensions between the two countries to the highest level in decades.

The fighting two weeks ago, along the disputed border between the world’s two most populous countries, left 20 Indian soldiers dead and an unknown number of Chinese casualties.

Has America banned it?

Interesting. I wonder if Tik Tok actually accesses personal data that might be dangerous.

Good for India.

Considering how AOC was cheering on, in what amounted to "soft" election interference, the US could ban certain apps deemed "National Security" issues in regards to Federal Elections.

Tik Tok is literally nothing but children, the next shiny object, too bad it's Chinese owned and ran by leftist ideologues, as is most of Silicon valley, a damn brainwashing app. These kids don't care about the election, or who wins, to troll is the edgy and cool thing these days.

The Chinese apps were “stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India,” India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said in a statement Monday.
“The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defense of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures,” the statement added.

If you look up TikTok Reverse Engineering, there's a redditor who claims to have done that and found some very interesting "features" in the application. Then again if you look at the T&C's for most applications you'd be hard pressed to find apps that don't do a lot of the functions that are claimed by this reverse engineering.

Yes the Majority of Tik Tok videos might be children, but Tik Tok does send alot of data back to Servers in China and those "kids" will be young adults in couple of years.

It's not about using the information right now either, these companies are going to look at the MUCH bigger picture, 5 or 10 years from now, not only do they have the information about all your contacts, likes, dislikes, messages, fashion sense, music styles, photos etc ... but also their friends information, social interaction and growth tracking from child/teen to adulthood.

Whats scary is how a suite of apps could literally influence a person from youth to adulthood, and as a result, their decision making, purchases, and possibly even a countries success or failure based on an entire generation being influenced via whatever xyz apps happen to be in fashion.

Seems to me the rest of the world should follow India’s example.

At least on this issue. Their approach to plumbing and road safety leaves much to be desired
