Lee kept his father-in-law's slaves because he needed money? Really?

"Lee's father-in-law G. W. Parke Custis freed his slaves in his will. In the same tradition, before leaving to serve in Mexico, Lee had written a will providing for the manumission of the only slaves he owned. Parke Custis was a member of the American Colonization Society, which was formed to gradually end slavery by establishing a free republic in Liberia for African-Americans, and Lee assisted several ex-slaves to emigrate there."

No, im correct. And i believe you and I are actually saying the same thing more or less .

He was not against slavery due to compassion. It was expediency, although i believe it arose from a desire to provide more expedient governance more than laziness.

he kept his father-in-law's slaves because he needed money basically to cover reparations imposed on him.

That was against his FIL wishes and his will when his FIL died.

Plus he separated families, used brutal punishments, etc.

His actions - - outweigh his words on paper.

Oooo, tell us another full-o-sht lie.
