I'm not sure how common it is for ICUs to be filled to full capacity? The last time I heard about ICUs being full was during the 9/11 attacks. This is a first since then for me.

Houston's Texas Medical Center, considered the largest medical complex in the world, reached 100 percent ICU occupancy Thursday, as Texas continues to cope with a surge in coronavirus cases.

The medical center added that it was seeing an increase in the number of younger patients being admitted.

"Young people tend to be more active in communal gathering, which can further contribute to the spread of the virus," it said. "To that end, we implore young citizens to take it upon themselves to commit to physically distance as much as possible and to wear masks when socializing with one another."

Newsweek

We have heard of the concerns with regards to ICU beds and capacity being limited with the addition of Covid19 patients, and this is the first showing of that. This virus doesn't take a vacation apparently.... Summer doesn't change much. Other reports state 'near capacity';

I really am not sure what to think of this. I mean we've already endured a long enough shutdown and I've seen the consequences first hand of the type of job loss it's caused. On the other hand, we're risking the medical centers being overrun. A buddy of mine who works as a nurse in Dallas told me the other day that they were doing perfectly fine, so looks like this issue isn't quite state-wide yet.

Uncertain times ahead, keep safe ATS.

Yep,

With all the riots... ummmm ... protests and all the complacent lemmings infecting each other we will see records for weeks to come.

Gov. Greg Abbott pauses Texas’ reopening, bans elective surgeries in four counties to preserve bed space for coronavirus patients

www.texastribune.org...

Gov. Greg Abbott announced Thursday morning that he will pause any further phases of reopening businesses in Texas and that he is once again putting a stop to elective surgeries to preserve bed space for coronavirus patients in certain counties that are seeing a surge of COVID-19 cases.

Yep, the protests didn't help. I agree.

Texas just surpassed 100k of covid cases the other day. Crazy times. We don't need this. Not this year.

Doesn't that have to be like 75% of the population infected? I mean reported cases are less than a percent of the population, and that is assuming the reports are correct. Covid-deniers even claim reported numbers are over-reported.

Neither of the sources are CNN. And even if they were, why not focus on the substance of the reports themselves?

Well nobody said we were going to get to herd immunity fast, but every person who catches it means we are one step closer to herd immunity. You can't beat nature.

We certainly all can't hunker down at home until they create the ever illusive vaccine. We would all be ass broke by then, including the federal, state, and local governments. Let alone all the businesses that would collapse. Then after that the banks from all the defaults/bankruptcies.

Can't imagine why an icu would fill up when you brainwash everyone into thinking they are going to die from the flu.

The small business flu.
The silent killer that won't harm you if you pack together in large groups to shop.

Not only that...
Patients are being tested for COVID, if you break a leg there is a good chance you have COVID-19.

New York still increasing in cases. And given New York instituted the strictest lockdown in the country, it's a given their cases would slow down dramatically, as a result. I highly doubt Texas will follow suit.

That's what I'm torn on. It's impossible to completely lock this down... yet the implications for overflown hospitals, a medical system under immense pressure, as if we don't have a troubled medical system (in terms of cost, bankruptcies) as is.

Increase of young people being hospitalised .
Not good .

When op mentions " the other day " ,

Things can change very rapidly indeed beginning with sudden increased numbers of infections when there's already elevated presence in the background , which there wasn't before

We New Yorks haven't been observing that "strictest lockdown" since the first week of May. Plenty of people going about their business as usual many with out masks.

These days human traffic is as high as normal.

New cases and New deaths have flatland.
