It could be resolved quite easily.

Upon entering the main url you’re met with 2 options.

1. I have my tin foil hat on, take me to the conspiracy boards.
2. I brought my soap box, take me to the political discussion forum.

Additionally you should incentivise any kind of paywall. For example paid subscribers have any of their threads entered into the thread of the month, post of the month community awards etc.

That's actually a damn good idea, I really hope they give it heavy consideration. Kind of like the Conspiracy & BTS/Off Topic sections we have now, but with the main subject groups having their own respective sections entirely (ATS/BTS yin/yang again)

Not going to happen.

There is no way a subscription model will work.
But, I am not sure why the focus is making money?
Surely break even is good enough if the site is viewed as a community and not a business.
Now, some people could have their time reimbursed but that is all part of the breakeven calc.

Certainly not just ATS. And it’s not just right wing propaganda. I think the far right invaded the conspiracy world because the “Q” nonsense, and Donald Trump crying foul before the 2016 elections. That merged with all the real life Clinton conspiracies and suddenly you have this massive increase in conservative conspiracy theorists who also had a President they adored who fanned the conspiracy flames just enough to let it grow into a wild fire.

I’ve said it 1,000 times...go to Reddit and you will see the polar opposite of ATS...only much worse. The far left controls all the dialogue there, there are about 20 “super moderators” who moderate most of the top 100 subreddits and actively deny any kind of conservative ideology while actively pushing for socialism and communism.

If this place turns into a privately funded board, run by a small handful of 'elites' who put a few quid in for break even purposes... It will last about a week at best. Have you already seen some of the snarky responses made by some of the self proclaimed 'saviours'?

Because that's the only solution. Advertising brokers won't touch the place, hell, they won't even touch Facebook at the moment. Cross platform revenue... have you seen how many likes the Twitter account gets? Zero. A Youtube channel - what's out there already... well produced expensive videos that cover everything on here.

People need to come to terms with the fact that this place has naturally died. It's sad. It's been a part of us for ages. Whatever.

The current owners need to download all the content, make it into a book and sell it. Recoup their loses and close the URL.

I think that this is the core motivation for most of us in the working group, yes. There isn't really anywhere else like ATS online, and we have to protect that. I think break-even is a reasonable goal...if we turn a profit, that would likely be re-invested.

For everyone discussing smaller pledges: once the acquisition's been made, we would try our best to make the new ATS at least break even. There's a lot of early talk about what that would mean, but ideas for one time donations, recurring donations, subscriptions, etc, are all being considered, as well as crowdfunding, for the next step. It won't achieve much if we pick it up just to have die anyway, and so we'll have to get creative when that time comes. There's a lot of talk on promotion and marketing, and possibly partnerships, as well.

Because without a viable business model and cash in the bank for unforeseen expenses you won't break even. You'll always be behind the curve operating on thin margins.

Discussion forums have existed for as long as human beings have been creating communities and they will continue to exist.
Within those communities, you always get the oddballs who lash out at the community because it does conform to their way of thinking.

The internet is awash with communities that have lasted for many many years and simply break even, or even lose a little.
YouTube has zero engagement for discussion - one line comments from wise asses dominate.
Yeah great for videos but a community - nope.
Twitter is the same - quite simply its a ratio war in 140 characters or less.

You don't want to be part of the community? Fine. Your choice. Go watch some Youtube videos or tweet away.

Break-even means break-even.
The 'buyers' need to determine upfront whether the goal is to make money or just maintain the community.
Breaking even means that you cover expenses, which includes unforeseen expenses.
