That's funny right there.

your Big Boy depiction does none of that.

Stick a black man caricature in checked overalls and call him anybody's "Big Boy" and tell me the fur would not fly over it. Methinks you're blinded by color, which is 180 degrees opposite the color blindness that you seem to want white America to exhibit.
:
Off course I see color, I'm not blind in any fashion, I'm thus able to see through bull chips, plenty of Black imagery used to sell products without being racists or even racialised.
making Big Boy black, may certainly draw negative attention especially calling him A Boy! because now the historical context changes depending on your audience, put a bucket of chicken in his hand instead of a hamburger and you got an Ad nightmare.

Lemme say this, cuz I haven't really point this out beyond that the origins of such images and the negative role they played ,but the majority of Black folks are not overly concerned with them , just another annoyance to put up with , they have bigger fish to fry, and this is waay down on the list.

These decision by corporate interests can be seen as a cynical ploy , co-opt the energy made by the mass protests by positioning themselves as part of the good guys and thus deserving of their $$$ they will get from association, they are not unaware of the massive windfalls made by Nike in the recent culture battle over kneeling, it is a discussion worth having , but the idea over what's behind those images is a different matter and I'm not sorry to see them gone regardless..This Time The Revolution Will Be Coopratized & Monetized. < this however is not what we want , if they really cared they would've gotten rid of them , from as far back as the 60ts.

I'm compelled by Harrington's great grandson's view that Quaker is going to get rid of this part of their family history even though they still have a dispute about the terms of Harrington's and Green's contracts. Namely, that there are royalties owed.

Their case was thrown out because neither the families nor Quaker could produce the contracts. Yet those contracts surely exist/existed as evidenced by their work for the brand.

Seems fishy that Quaker would cave so easily, now, and take such a risk when they stubbornly refused to agree to some settlement with the families...given the endurance and popularity of the brand.

Yes, Quaker's *gesture* of changing the brand feels like performative BS....if that's what you are getting at. Otherwise they would have come to some settlement agreement with the families, in 2014.

^^ETA: Harrington's great grandson also said getting rid of her image was white people's idea. I do not doubt that...there are corporatists amongst the elite who are trying to hijack the power of BLM.

With talk of reparations...it's pretty convenient that Quaker couldn't find those contracts which may have planted a seed in the minds of many that the courts are available to go directly to the source of those who profited from black oppression.

When Justin Bieber made his apology for profiting from black culture, I was p*ssed. Not because I think he shouldn't apologize, but because if that's his confession, then he should be held accountable. All of the elite falling all over themselves to confess their sins should have their empty apologies treated very, very seriously.

Their confessions are everywhere and they have the profit to evidence those confessions. Why don't black Americans file a class action lawsuit against every elitist celeb, corporation, politician, etc. to recover from the financial injuries they confess they are responsible for?

The elite want the 99% to pay for them. That's why I think Quaker is happy to *gesture* instead of pay up.

I think the elite are happy to see reminders of terrible times in history erased.

Most folks do not know what appropriation really is,

Cultural appropriation can be defined as the “cherry picking” or selecting of certain aspects of a culture, and ignoring their original significance for the purpose of belittling it as a trend. Appreciation is honoring and respecting another culture and its practices, as a way to gain knowledge and understanding
makeitourbusiness.ca...

Agreed , as for the hot button topic of repatriation, targeting institutions like City Bank who financed illegal slave trading or smuggling , especially after the practice was officially ended in places like NY , I have no problems with, the damages done to communities like Green Wood Oklahoma aka "Black Wall St." and many others would be a great start , especially since such acts are within living memory. This includes lynchings with the police in cahoots with the lynchers.

It’s the forcing of the change people resist. Age 10 years and you too will resist forced change. A movement will come you aren’t a part of and change things around you in time, but it’s just the change you are resisting, not the force...

Ignorance.

Sorry, I can't see this as anything but the free market at work.

Company changes their brands and brand icons according to what they think the market will do.

If someone wants to preserve Aunt Jemima intact, they should buy the company or at least the marks.

You could have said the same sort of thing about slavery or stoning people to death. Things change.

It's a really dated bit of packaging anyway.

Why does anyone care what pseudo home cooking branding some mega corporation uses to trick you into buying their ultra processed crap anyway.

They should be forced to have a graphic representing the ingredients:

ENRICHED BLEACHED FLOUR (BLEACHED WHEAT FLOUR, NIACINAMIDE, REDUCED IRON, THIAMIN MONONITRATE, RIBOFLAVIN, FOLIC ACID), SUGAR, LEAVENING (BAKING SODA, SODIUM ALUMINUM PHOSPHATE, MONOCALCIUM PHOSPHATE), SALT, CALCIUM CARBONATE.

Let's see how much they sell then.

You would think having her picture would be a compliment and getting rid of her face for life would be racist?

Just another black face gone from the market.

Hollyweird is making up for it, demanding a black person be in every marketing commercial or they wont film it

I got nothing against getting rid of heritage that has hung around like an appendix, waiting to become infected.

But the people wanting to dump it should also look at their own heritage and see what dirty cultural diapers they themselves are carrying around. Take down a Confederate flag, sure. But also question why every other popular rap song endlessly shouts the "N" word at full volume.

My good-hearted but racist dad is long gone. I cleaned up my own attitudes. He tried, but fell a little short. I don't need to celebrate the racist part of his heritage, just remember how he helped people regardless of color even though he was not raised that way himself.

My dad is probably the same generation as yours.

I know from the way he's talked over the years that the race riots of those years gave him a very jaundiced view of race. He's endlessly suspicious.

After these past few weeks and the way politicians and the corporate world have shamelessly sold out to wholesale rioting, calling it peaceful protest, I can see why. If it was anything like that back then, then his attitude is honestly come by.

This all leads nowhere good and just serves to set race relations back, and I have to say it's by design. There's a lot of folks make their living on it.

As a white kid, "dedicated to God", in a "black church"? I find all of this nonsense ironic.

But as an American? This is absolutely sickening to me!
Aunt Jemima was a "monument" to "progress". Aunt Jemima was an "Ameican" I could trust! To make my pancakes more TASTY!

Now "they"? Whoever "they" are? Are making my pancakes questionable.

Only evil people take down monuments.

"There's no such thing as a good for nothing. They can always serve as a bad example."

One of the most wanted C.S.A. "RAIDERS" by the "Union". Was a "Black man". He was given a "Commission" as a "Captain in Command", by the Southern/Rebel (slave holding) government. He was a Soldiers, soldier.
I invite all Americans to do their research into this man, regardless of "color".

Not just that. But the "South", freed "the slaves" before the war was over.

Then you have the black slave traders in Africa, selling their own "race" into bondage?

I blame the "public school" system for not teaching history correctly! Now these F'n ignorant fools, are F'n with my "white man" pancakes!!??!! Aunt Jemima was up there with Joe Lewis and Chuck Berry!

You "Social Justice Warriors" are doing it, so very wrong... Ya'll are headed for a real, bad day.
