Financial Reparations Should Be Off the Table if ALL U.S. Slavery Reminders Must Be Removed.

The two year push to remove and/or destroy all historical reminders of Slavery in America, peaked again this past week:

For all the handwringing over the “senseless” property destruction that has accompanied the past week of protest, a number of the damaged sites have a perfectly sensible connection to the protesters’ chief grievance: anti-Black racism.

Throughout the South, protesters have burned buildings and toppled statues that have stood for years as overt reminders of the country’s history of chattel slavery, racial apartheid, and the war fought to uphold it.
More at: www.motherjones.com...

If African Americans do not want to be reminded of past Slavery and race-related Injustices, it only makes sense that they would NOT want to receive financial reparations for the things they want to forget.

Every time the slave-owner descendants running the U.S. Government sent a reparations check, or made a reparations deposit to a slave-descendant's account, it would re-kindle memories of that horrible era.

Personally, I don't think it's good to erase history, no matter how painful.

Most Jewish people probably feel the same way. They want the world to LEARN and REMEMBER what happened to them, so as to not have it repeated.

But if slave descendants in the U.S. want avoid painful reminders of what their ancestors endured, it's their right. No statues, erase slavery from school history books, and no compensation/reparations.

I'm Irish, where's my moolah?

You think you have had it as bad as African Americans? Were Irish Americans ever 3/5ths a human in the eyes of the govt?

Wow, I feel bad for you. Here's $1. Get over it.

You call it erasing history - it is not erasing history. It is erasing monuments to a horrible history. The history still exists and is easy to read or simply ask about.

Every racial group at some point has had bad things happen to them because of their race, at the hands of another.

Pick any group and pick any other group, there has been racial injustice all across the board.

By trying to "quantify" and place them on a scale and call for "reparations" for some and not others, just continues to fuel racial divide.

Anyone that does so, is in fact racist and worst of all, just plain stupid.

Lol
Oh right, the poor beaten down blacks.
You sound racist.
Affirmative action hiring give blacks a lead on the competition.
Blacks and whites have the same opportunities when applying themselves.

Anything else is a weak attempt at manipulation.

I mean hell, let's ask. Any Jewish people here think that the Holocaust Museum should be burned down?

Yes when they were slaves.

Although before the 3/5 Compromise, they had the same vote as a black person did.

None.

Or do you think there were no Irish slaves in America?

The Irish slave trade began when 30,000 Irish prisoners were sold as slaves to the New World. The King James I Proclamation of 1625 required Irish political prisoners be sent overseas and sold to English settlers in the West Indies. By the mid 1600s, the Irish were the main slaves sold to Antigua and Montserrat. At that time, 70% of the total population of Montserrat were Irish slaves.

Ireland quickly became the biggest source of human livestock for English merchants. The majority of the early slaves to the New World were actually white.

The Irish slave trade

Where did you learn your history... a really bad public school?

The Italians were treated like dirt.

The Irish were subhuman.

The Africans were slaves.

They fought to get equal rights just 60 years ago.

It's clear after seeing the knee in the neck they are still fighting for it.

Like you say, anyone that doesn't see it is in fact a racist and worst of all, just plain stupid.

It is not equitable.

Reparations for what? Slavery? That's a conspiracy theory.

So who pays who?

If everyone is owed, by any group not of themselves, seems like a flush move to me.

Speaking of racist and just plain stupid...

Blacks and minorities right now in America have more opportunities then white people do in terms of employment.

Affirmative Action... maybe you heard about that.

Should we just push for all POC and women having 5/3 of a vote to make up for things that are already fixed?

I wonder how that will change as the decades pass, and society forces removal of references to African slaves from history books too?

What did we hit $37 Trillion in debt today? Whats payment when you just print money?

Trump seems to have no issues spending it.

So you have Zero concept of how money works....

Not surprised at all.

Spoiler, if "the government" were to issue checks, that comes out of everyones pockets, even black people. They'd be paying themselves.

I'm sure all those ideas sound great on twitter though, tons of thumbs up.

Oh the poor beaten down Irish. My heart breaks for you.

Affirmative action hiring gives "blacks" a lead on the competition? Are you living in 1986?

Why not pay them for the decades of getting screwed over financially?

I don't care, I don't use my ancestors slavery as an excuse to be lazy.
I work for a living.
I had to learn to dress, communicate and schedule like an adult.
As much as it sucks.
I understand value and make sure I am providing one.

That's a #ty attitude.

You need to go back through the mosaic of time, thousands of years, plot the points and tally up your "oppression" points. Then use those to explain away your own incompetence and lack of success, all the while blaming "some other race" and then calling for a payout.

Do you even "progressive" bro????
