Looks like the officer barely made contact; looks like the guy was stumbling backwards even before the office made contact; and it looks like the guy was stumbling and feel back in a way you might see when someone does it purpose.
My personal opinion is that the guy set it all up fully intending to be a 70 year old man who was pushed over by police officers.

That's not what it looked like to me....

All they had to do was escort him to the area they wanted him in.
I am GLAD they were suspended
They have NO understanding of how to handle their authority.
Cops are trained to deal with criminals in crimes. Not for protests and for curfews with people who do not want to be restricted. Plus these cops are probably overworked and tense, there are cops getting shot and beat up, even an old guy could be a little nuts and pull a knife and stab them in the throat. We are old people, some of the old people were trained in the military...we are not harmless just because we are older. I may be in my sixties, and sore all over from years of abusing my body at work, but if I had to I could take almost anyone down in minutes if they let their guard down, And I was never military, but know how to protect myself if needed. Never assume an old guy is helpless.
They should not have people who are not trained working then.
If they put people in that situation untrained then the city is responsible, right?
The lengths you are going to for justification of this are dizzying.

Stupid all around.
The man is obviously old and frail.
A stiff wind could have knocked him down.
He should have never been there and officers should have even avoided brushing against him given his physical state.
I'm starting to think this all is darwin stuffing his cart at a super sale after having been in hiding for a decade. He's stocking up hard.

The attempts to divide us are working like a charm.

Who is actually doing the dividing? The president agreed that peaceful protesters including clergy from the church he wanted a photo op at (he doesn't attend any church) should be considered terrorists.
The biggest victims of the rioting are peace-loving citizens in our poorest communities, and as their President, I will fight to keep them safe. I will fight to protect you. I am your President of law and order, and an ally of all peaceful protesters.
These are not acts of peaceful protest. These are acts of domestic terror. The destruction of innocent life and the spilling of innocent blood is an offense to humanity and a crime against God.
