I've heard this called "predictive programming". I'm sure of the exact definition of this term, but I had always thought of science fiction as futurist projections made by far thinking authors. So, if that is the case then Sci-Fi material will often hit the nail on the head in their fictional stories of a future situation. They saw where certain trends were headed and illustrated what could happen in the future. Certainly not all of them were making accurate predictions of the future, but then those scenarios aren't playing out right now and such stories are ignored in favor of the more accurate predictions.

On a side note, I like THX1138, it is a good film with a cool story line. Not sure I'd call it all that accurate as far as a prediction of the future, but it's probably close. I especially like how the protagonist escaped at the end because his pursuit went over budget.

I agree with ahab, the stuff that would actually address so many issues people say they care about are 1) right here and available without some bizarre global corporate governance and 2) would actually solve the issues so many "claim" to care about.

ETA: Just fair warning.. This is all the culmination of longterm plans to destroy social cohesion in the west, and get people chasing ideals in a way that will never bear fruit.

Its a war for the future of the world, and not the "pew pew" kind. The sooner people figure that out, the better.

OMG that reminded me of a dream I had last night.
And it's like one that apparently got buried in my subsconscious until now 12 hours or whatver later, on purpose. . .

We all lived in a world where there were massive meat shortages.

There were gladiator or violent games on TV with real weapons/knives.

The losers got carted off and no one saw them (obviously) again and then there would be stock of meat in the supermarkets.

Miraculously all the chicken counters, pork, were empty.

But the red meat was always partially full partially cleaned out over and over.

All of us knew what was going on, but it didn't taste that bad.

When I woke up besides WTF I said to myself, is it really red like beef or not?
