Officials in Madagascar are adamant that they have a herbal solution to the current global health crisis - and they've managed to sell their first batch.

The eyes of the world have been drawn to Madagascar this week, after the government rolled out production of a herbal tea which it claims can negate the effects of the disease currently ravaging the planet.

Days after the US President Donald Trump suggested using disinfectant to combat the COVID-19 or coronavirus pandemic, Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina has recommended an organic concoction to cure the infected patients.

His claim that the concoction named Covid Organics (CVO) – a form of herbal tea – is curing COVID-19 patients has divided public opinion in the island nation, some 400 kilometers (248 miles) off the coast of East Africa.

Taking to Twitter, Rajoelina asked people to believe in the country’s ability. He said all profits accrued through the sale of concoction will be diverted to the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (MIAR).

Madagascar’s president Andry Rajoelina went on television this week to promote an organic coronavirus remedy called Covid Organic that he said will “change the course of history."


Medical professional including the head of Madagascar’s Academy of Medicine worry the beverage has not been scientifically tested and could give citizens on the African island a false sense of security.

President Rajoelina took a sip of the organic beverage during his national broadcast to show he supports the quick fix. He said he hoped to “protect our population” by promoting Covid Organic.

Which is an ingredient in the Madagascan tea.

The other effective plants the ncbi article involves in the fight against SARS are also fairly easy to grow or find from plant suppliers , they will grow in Europe and the states too .

Some of the herbs in the tea called cvo are native only to Madagascar , known to be a unique habitat.

This is a cause for celebration , not the miserable outlook of the who and that / psychiatrist from quackwatch . We've come across them before , somewhere , shilling their way across the truth .

TextSenegal orders Madagascar “miracle tea”

Government spokesperson Abdou Latif Coulibaly told public broadcaster RTS that Senegal was ready to test the “miracle” product, officially known as CVO. Senegal has one of the best rates of recovery on the planet, as almost 300 people have recovered from the disease already. Only 671 patients had been infected. Now, Senegal’s president has confirmed that the first batch of the herbal infusion will arrive this week.

But it is Madagascar which leads the way here. The island nation has just 124 cases to note amongst its 27 million citizens. No deaths have been reported as of yet, signalling a major PR boost for the CVO tea.

According to information from the Presidency of the Republic of Madagascar, three African countries Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Guinea Bissau, have enquired details about the CVO.

Senegal President Macky Sall has ordered the remedy after contacting his Madagascar counterpart, according to Senegalese local media.

There are over 33.566 coronavirus cases, 1.469 deaths, and 10,152 recoveries recorded in 52 out of 54 African countries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

What is in the Madagascar CVO tea?

Unarmed Madagascar soldiers went door-to-door in the capital Antananarivo this weekend, doling out sachets of a local herbal tea touted by President Andry Rajoelina as a powerful remedy against the deadly illness

The tonic is derived from artemisia — a plant with proven efficacy in treating malaria

The locally-brewed treatment is made up of several other herbs exclusive to the island.

It has been developed by the Madagascar Institute of Applied Research (IMRA) but has not been tested internationally – in fact, the Worl Health Organisation (WHO) isn’t entertaining “herbal treatments”.

The recommended dosage is two cups per day for adults, one cup for children, nothing for pregnant women.

Who have their reservations

“This herbal tea gives results in seven days,” Rajoelina announced at its official launch last week. WHO remains sceptical, as herbal remedies are often dubious in their authenticity.

Madagascar’s claims that it can strengthen the immune system are yet to be verified by any other nation or independent body. As much as we all want a cure, items like a “miracle tea” have a long way to go before they are proved to be successful. However, the Senegalese government is backing its fellow African nation.

I wouldn't be surprised if a tea worked.

There's certain teas that help to stop the blood flow to cancers and are very effective. More testing needs to be done to see if this is indeed efective. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if it did.

This hopeful news -- thank you! And I give the government much MUCH credit for being proactive and practical in empowering their people to prep and protect and heal themselves.

The artemisia family of plants has long been known as an antimicrobial and antiviral. Absinthe is made from the roots of one type of artemisia -- common wormwood. Dusty miller is another common garden variety from the artemisia family.

It would be interesting to know the other plants, and any testing performed on them for antiviral/antimicrobial purposes. I suppose they are not commonly known or available though, given they are native to Madagascar. But I would expect counterparts to be found on other continents with similar properties.

Artemisia Absinthium.

Yes it would be ideal to know exactly what's in the cov tea . The plants mentioned by Latin name in the ncbi link are easily found from nursery suppliers
Pyrrosia lingua is a commonly found type of fern in the gardens and wild of the UK too.
Had the artemisia annua ready to go since February , though it's mixed with black walnut and the artemisia absynth variety too. All antiviral but with a named particular from the established research on SARS cov . All the same , better than potentially getting nothing NADA nillio off doctors . If this disease gets here at all it'll get everything chucked at it , garlic pineapple basil coconut oil , etc everything and anything antiviral. It's about really suspicious that msm's and the who have to make a big deal out of not doing that . And not backing this research even though it's on the who database as well. And the

Nope, we won't... at least some of us won't (wink!).

More than ever, I am thinking that it's far more efficient, and therefore practical, to devote efforts into the research and development of general all-purpose antimicrobial (or anti-viral or anti-bacterial) preventatives and medications that would work for most/all viruses, bacteria, etc. A concoction like this one with several antiviral properties would have far-ranging effects over many different viruses, and when a new one comes along, we would already have a tried and tested treatment. If necessary and appropriate, it could be tweaked for specific viruses.

I believe that is what's known as outcome-based treatment. Or at least a form of it. Many infections are not specifically tested and identified (which takes time and wastes time), but rather a broad spectrum antibiotic is used, known to be effective on bacteria in general.

There is a chance that even such a concoction would not be effective on this or that specific virus or bacteria, but even that would tell us much, and let us know we need to find something that is effective.

Wormwood( Artemisia0 is the ingredient there referring to. Its a common herb and you can purchase the tea or pills anywhere.

Artemisia has been shown to be effective in the treatment of malaria. Artemisia annua is an herb traditionally used in Chinese medicine to treat fever, inflammation, and malaria. A compound in artemisia was shown to be effective in treating malaria in a clinical trial.Mar 1, 2018

It might help but who knows. A lot of herbs might work but the mainstream would have a fit and kill anybody who actually finds and advertising it.

The drug companies, WHO, and money people would send a hitman on you if you did find a cure.

The fact of the matter is if the scientific research establishment put the resources in studying natural solutions we'd be much better off but the powerful, drug, financial, and medical establishment wouldn't allow it.

Something is up here the plant is banned in France and Belgium since 2012 , it's the alternative to hydroxychloroquine for malaria too . Reading recommended .
