It's a really interesting garden; been there several times. I love herbal/plant history.

Fun fact: Alnwick Castle is pronounced Ann Ick

Cool post! Yeah, it looks pretty crazy, the gentleman in a total hazmat suit. He was so nonchalant talking about the plants. It gave me a chuckle.

Yep. Silent W.

There are a few towns in Cumbria with the silent W.

If I ever went over to England and Europe to travel, it would be the type of place I'd want to see to be honest. I like the more unusual stuff. Sure, I'd see the normal things to some degree, the stuff everyone expects you to see, but I'd also want to see the less likely attractions that aren't commonly thought of, the little dive eating joints that are more local and more likely to have things I've never tried before, natural wonders like the volcanic fields in Italy, etc.

This is really cool! Definitely a place I'd like to check out someday!

Thanks for bringing it to us!

Yeah, what I love is it's on the river Aln in which you pronounce the L. Gotta love the English Language.
The Northeast is a lovely area of England with a ton of History that sadly not many tourists ever go see.

Another fun fact......

*Alnwick Castle,* Northumberland, England

Alnwick Castle is the location used for Hogwarts Castle in *Harry Potter and the

Philosopher's Stone* and *Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.*

It has also been featured in other famous films as well, like *Elizabeth* and

*Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.*

My guess is they developed an immunity to them, after exposure--assuming, of course, that they survived long enough.

Kinda spookily cool, frankly.

If your into that dangerous pursuit try visiting Gruinard Island, just off the Scottish coast. Especially if you like Anthrax. Buutt, the government reckon they sprayed it clean, if you want to take that chance.

Well after reading about the Gruinard Fire online this morning, I decided to search ATS for anything
That might have been mentioned here and the above thread was all I could find
Thought it might interest a few people:
The whole place going up in flames and all that.

He needs that hazmat and gloves for the giant hogweed it's phyto toxic so you only have to brush your skin on it and you get a burn that never goes away .

Giant hogweed is usually pretty harmless if you just brush up against it. Where it becomes a problem is if you get some sap on you (weeding, or tearing it out unprotected)

I regrettably was being a smartbass when
hiking, and took a dare.
Defying the warning signs posted about hogweed,
picked a few leaves and purposely rubbed them on my forearm.
At first nothing, later in the day nothing . . .
After a shower, and going to bed nothing.
In the morning woke up to a huge blistered arm

Nasty stuff, comparable to a scald. Lasted three weeks
before it healed, scar lasted for a couple of months.
