I wasn't sure if this was medical or 'world issues'.
I decided world issues because it mostly talks about
Amnesty International and what defines 'torture'
through starvation.

Yes this is Newsmax ... but it gives a very good description
of what is accepted as a definition of 'torture by starvation'.
The upcoming torturous murder of Terry Schiavo fits this.
Amnesty International got all upset over dirty pictures being
taken of captured terrorists (and they were right, it was wrong).
They called that torture (yeah, right
) BUT .. here is a woman
that is being prepped to die a long painful death by REAL torture and
they remain silent.

I used to like Amnesty International. Years ago I donated to them.
Now .. they are nothing more than a radical left political group.
It's shameful. They used to do such good in the world.

Rights Groups Mum on Schiavo's Torture

Court-approved plans to starve a brain-damaged Florida woman to death
later this month have prompted no outrage from human rights groups -
even though, under international law, forced starvation is considered a
form of torture.

Articles 14 and 54 of the Geneva protocols, however, also expressly
prohibit the starvation of non-combatants - even in wartime conditions:

"Starvation of civilians as a method of warfare is prohibited," states Article
54. "The prohibition on using starvation against civilians is a rule from
which no derogation may be made. A form of words whereby it would
have been possible to make an exception in case of imperative military
necessity was not adopted."

Article 14 of the Geneva protocols states: "It should be noted that even if
starvation were not subject to an official legal prohibition, it is nowadays
no longer an acceptable phenomenon, irrespective of how it arises [natural
disaster or induced by man]."

According to medical experts, after her feeding tube is removed, Mrs.
Schiavo will experience extreme pain and significant psychological distress
during the two weeks that her starvation-execution is expected to take.
Her skin, tongue and lips will crack due to dehydration. Schiavo will likely
suffer chronic nosebleeds as mucous membranes dry out, followed by
heaving and vomiting as the stomach lining dries out. Her mouth is
expected to develop painful ulcers. As Schiavo's brain is deprived of fluid,
she is expected to suffer grand mal seizures.

If they plan kill her, why in this grueling quasi legal circumventing hypocrite manner, even a .45 seems more humane.

Is she capable of feeling pain if she is braindead?

They'll never allow this to occur in my opinion. Someone will step in, or something will happen - you watch.

FF - I agree with your thoughts on AI. Seems they take things to the extreme nowdays. They've certainly got it right with this case - being torture. As for Iraqi's in a naked pyramid? Different story IMO.

Total brain death no. If you look at the EKG of a truly brain dead patient the fist thing you note is the regularity. Almost as if they are on a fixed rate pacemaker.

The lac of beat to beat variability is in responce tot he fact that thier brain no longer is processing external data like noise, temperature etc.

:shk: Terri can be medicated for the extreme pain these groups are claiming that occurs.

The only people Amnesty should go after is the church groups and her parents that seem hell bent in prolonging her agony.

She isn't braindead so YES she will feel every minute of the pain.

A woman who was in worse condition than Terri had her feeding
tube removed for 8 days before it was replaced and restarted.
She has since recovered and she says that she remembers
EVERYTHING that was said to her, and she remembers the PAIN
of being starved.

www.lifesite.net...

We throw people in jail for starving animals to death.
Why is it okay to starve a woman to death? We treat
our animals better than we do people. Why is her
husband so afraid of allowing physical therapy for her?
It hasn't been tried. This article that I posted is proof that
there is a possibility that Terri CAN recover fully ... why not
give life a chance before imposing a painful death penalty?
(a death penalty by starvation that is against international law)

Recently a man got 2 years in prison and 8 years probation for killing a "cat". Terri being starved to death is yet more proof of liberal insanity and the out of control black robed "butchers" on the courts. Murder babies and the ill but don't kill murderers?

Does Amnesty International have people in every hospital just waiting for something like this to occur?

If so please state...

You know why this is happening? (I am normally more balanced, but this one is true.) It is because the conservatives have stymied the active euthanasia movement. Dr. Kevorkian was sentenced and jailed. This has killed much hope for the movement.

You want to complain about the torture that this woman WILL go through, change your ideals. Someone in this position should not be allowed to suffer like this. But that doesn't matter to you guys. You are more worried about pushing a "pro-life" agenda than the people suffering thanks to it. And then you complain about the suffering. Grow the hell up, people. You cannot have it both ways. The simple fact is that you guys are the problem in this.

And this case does not only bring up the euthanasia debate. No. What is going on now is a blow to your family's rights? Terry's family does NOT have a say so. Anything and everything about Terry should and MUST be decided by her husband. We should make NO laws or changes for this to stop. This would enter a POOR precedent. (I know they have stopped it before.) It will not stop with her. And people's responsibilties will be gently eased away. This is no easy decision for any person to make. But it should not be up to a judge or law maker or rabid family. It should only be made by the primary care giver to this person. After all, you choose who this person is, either by will or marriage or by birth. And if you take this away, you will only be setting up more of our rights to be taken away. And yes, this is a damned rights issue.

You people make me sick. You have prolonged this woman's life JUST TO PUSH YOUR AGENDA. She is not going to get better by everyone "praying for her". You are only making her life worse and you will ultimately set up the government to decide when they will let you die.

So, I ask you, when are you going to let this woman meet her maker? When are you going to let her pain stop? When are you going to let her go to heaven and be happy? When are you going to butt the heck out of other people's business? And lastly, when are you going to stop pushing your agenda when it is clearly MAKING THIS PERSON SUFFER?

Yeah, yeah, like the defunct United Nations, they are always too busy, devilwasp.
Amnesty International did not say anything on this because it is much like the ACLU: they saw no political advantage in doing so.

Thats your opinion and your entitled to it, but I state this; That is not a fact.

DW,

I think it becomes real easy for those with more right wing tendencies to knock groups like the ACLU, AI and the UN.

They do not come up with any better ideas they simply knock those who try to do some good.
