I don't even know what to add, sorry. I just stumbled on it. Still scratching my head. A quick look only leads me to a flimsy google doc. No particulars....no details...no real explanation.

Twitter co-founder and chief executive Jack Dorsey said Tuesday he was committing $1 billion of his personal fortune to coronavirus relief through his philanthropic fund.

Dorsey, 43, revealed in a series of tweets that he would transfer his equity in his digital payments group Square to his limited liability corporation Start Small, contributing around 28 percent of his overall wealth.

Dorsey's first pledge went to an initiative co-founded by actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

The move could be the largest from a single individual for coronavirus relief and comes with the pandemic spanning the globe and inflicting a heavy toll in lives and economic devastation on the United States.

'Why now? The needs are increasingly urgent, and I want to see the impact in my lifetime,' Dorsey said.

'I hope this inspires others to do something similar. Life is too short, so let's do everything we can today to help people now.'

Dorsey said that after the pandemic ends, the fund would focus on health and education for girls and 'universal basic income' efforts.

Dorsey, who is CEO of both Twitter and Square, has created a foundation as well as the Start Small LLC.

The model is similar to that established by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in his Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative, allowing for flexibility in funding startups and efforts a foundation may be ineligible to fund.

Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey will donate $1bn of his personal wealth to coronavirus relief starting with pledge to food initiative established by Leonardo DiCaprio

'Girl’s health and education' feels more critical to obfuscating this 'universal basic income' mission, to me. No surprise, there...women and girls are popular pawns, right now.

So many things to keep our eyes on.

I think I may be psychic. I predict that people will like to get free money for doing nothing and the conclusion will be that UBI is good... very, very good. It's fine if this guy wants to piss his own money down a rat hole, but you can never scale this to the US population. The money has to come from somewhere. And I know where all the toilet paper went. They are using it up to print the trillions of dollars to hand out to everyone and every business for the Covid-19 wreckage. A shout-out to MissSmartyPants!

I've been monitoring this announcement since yesterday, lots of folks across the political and social spectrums around the world have thanked Dorsey and given a big thumbs up for this commitment.

Given his personal political ideology and attraction to globalism, UBI is the trojan horse for global socialism IMO and will pave the way for the planets 'popular vote' to swing it into action under the control of the NWO bankster elitists.

No more Constitution for you.

I predict your prediction is correct.

But, I have serious doubts about where this billion dollars is really coming from...or this idea.

The UBI part is effectively buried by the story that he's donating a $1bn from his personal fortune to 'help.'

I'm glad someone else caught this and can smell how bad it stinks.

Truth be told, Im a big fan of the concept of meeting everyones basic needs. However, I feel this should be done with actual tools and technology, NOT currency.

I like the idea of doing it in a way that strengthens a nation through decentralized self-sufficiency, and vehemently opposed to any implementation that further perpetuates dependency and further entrenches centralized government control.

Wonder if a company like Twitter has many ties to the CCP, overt or otherwise? Though, I guess thats just kinda where my head goes with a lot of things these days.

I come from a family of 10 siblings. Trying to get all of us to agree on any one thing at the same time, was a near miracle.

My Mother's go to line, that shut us all up was, "He that pays, says."

When the roof over your head and the food in your stomach is controlled at the will of those that hold the kitty, and their generosity, you maybe not be as free as you think your are.

Agree.

Education/Job Training is the most important issue for a healthy economy, imo.

A competitive market provides incentive to succeed and it means we have more choices, better products, health care, etc.

But, with competition, there are winners and losers. We have to recognize the losers are necessary for a competitive economy, but we also want them to be able to compete to the best of their abilities. It's good for them and good for everyone else. We have responsibilities to make sure everyone has access to quality education/job training and their basic needs are being met. A system crafted to result in dependency is not the solution.

I don't know the solution though...I have ideas, but none that don't skirt the line of limiting people's rights. We aren't even close to trying to fix the real problems though. Government doesn't want it fixed...they want a new system where very few are winners and the rest of us are dependent losers.

I grew up watching Star Trek:TNG, so I suspect the idea of a "Replicator" has been both a conscious and unconscious inspiration to me. My own work definitely shows threads of that, even if it wasnt an actual design choice.

Now.. Clearly we arent quite there yet. But, in the last couple of decades we have streamlined a lot of tech that at least flirts in that direction.

I think that, like many things, the idea of "competition" can be perceived in vastly different ways. Some think of it as kneecapping possible rivals to lessen the demand for innovation. Others embrace rivals as a way to truly push ourselves further than we would have gone on our own.

I think the former is only marginally better than no competition at all. Beyond the initial creation phase, most resources, time, and energy tend to be spent preventing rivals from gaining a foothold altogether. But.. There is still the presence of the initial phase of creativity and innovation.

I think the paradigm of, say, metaphorically giving everyone fishing gear and teaching them how to use it, has a lot of promise. Instead of just giving currency to buy fish, we give the education and tools to feed ourselves at the individual level. Not perfect, but nothing ever really is, I suppose. Although, it would have the benefit of enabling everyone to achieve self-sufficiency. Done as a mostly "one time deal," it would also mark a clear delineation between those who want to thrive on their own drive, and those who simply yearn for dependence.

I think its an important discussion though, perhaps now more than ever. I am firmly against UBI.. Give me a plastic & sintered metal printer, alongside an automated aquaponics system and Ill make my own way without further need for assistance, tyvm.

So in the USA, I'm guessing the UBI could be around 300B - 400B a month for around 300m ??? people.

Trillions every year for UBI? I'd give it a couple months before every single idiot that thinks this is a good idea came to the conclusion that it is 100% unsustainable. The income to the USA annually wouldn't pay for this and everything it needs to pay. Would people still pay 'income' tax? I think not. There goes a big chunk of income to the Federal Government.

Maybe I am not adding this correctly.

Would UBI replace SNAP and Low Income Housing supplements, energy assistance, and Welfare overall? Why would anyone work? Would it be in addition to earned income?

The idea is ridiculous. Why not have the Government own everything. And then they could make housing, food and utilities, cell phones and internet and service, clothing, and automobiles and public transportation free and not give anyone a dime? Did I leave anything out? And then just pay the people who work to provide all those things.

Ridiculous????? Ya' think??????

I'm always a little cautious and a little suspicious when men start talking about educating women and girls.... It's not a distinction that I think needs to be made in our nation, or many nations. And it is an international endeavor, so maybe it's not meant for us so much as countries where women are not being educated. I don't know.

But I truly do not understand the concept of UBI in a supply-and-demand economy/society. They could pay each of as a million dollars a month, and it just means that prices -- including necessities like food and housing -- will go up proportionately. Whatever the market will bear.

Maybe these initiatives really aren't meant for western nations, but that's not clear either.

I know I'm not adding anything here, except doubts that this will work as planned. I just don't see how it can.

I've suspected TPTB will try to pull off something big. There are a lot of Boomer pensions and savings account at extremely high risk if what you're saying "is the plan."

Could it be THAT big?

Nail, meet head.

What gives money its value is scarcity, and the work required to acquire it.

If it loses either property to any degree, it loses its value to the same extent.

Do we want to take bets on how long that billion $ will last? I'm betting it's gone in weeks.

UBI is a pipe dream, because there's no way you can fund it for more than a short time.
