The original martial art form as taught in Indonesia goes back to the '60s. The technique the martial art relies on was developed nearly 500 years ago in central Java. We are talking about Merpati Putih.

Merpati Putih was founded on April 2 1963 in Yogyakarta and it has approximately 85 Indonesian and 4 overseas branches with a total of 415 kolat (training groups) spread throughout the archipelago and currently has there are approximately two and a half million graduates and there are still around 100,000 active members throughout Indonesia.

In the US they go under the name of Vibravision. Which makes it possible through the English language for the world to learn about the abilities possible using the third eye:

And how it is practiced in Indonesia, also by the military:

Has anyone heard of this before, or know anyone who practices this or anything similar, as in third eye training? I myself find it fascinating but know nothing of the technique. Seems to be a closely-guarded secret.

Fascinating OP. I’ll check the vids out when I have time.

I’ve never heard of this particular art. I’m familiar with Chinese martial arts (Shao-Lin Kung Fu). Interestingly enough, a lot of Chinese martial arts masters fled the communist purges by way of Indonesia or Taiwan. Martial arts, due to their association with Buddhism, Taoism, etc., became outlawed. Practitioners either quit practicing (and teaching) openly or left.

The teachers/practitioners with experience at the temples would have knowledge of the internal arts (nei kung) that include methods of cultivating chi.
The third eye is a key point along the greater and lesser circles of heaven.

super interesting. I've seen a lot of other videos of kids and adults learning to see blindfolded as well.

This place is about 20 minutes from me. I'm gonna check it out. I will report back.

We are are all quarantined so it might take a little while.

It takes incredible discipline and true love for the art. And such great power must be wielded with extreme caution and restraint.

Haha I much rather be making fart jokes. I'm so tired of the doom porn. And yes I've seen and heard of the "martial art" of which the op speaks. I had a very verryy hard time believing any of it. But I'll check it out again, I'm open to ideas I don't understand.

In Chronicles of Tao, by Deng Ming Dao (an excellent read), one of the masters at the temple uses gas as a secret weapon. Martial farts. No kidding.

I’m not familiar w/the art the OP describes, but I’ll check it out too. I’m no expert, but I’ve seen enough to remain open minded. There are a lot of hucksters out there, no doubt. But when you’ve had someone in the know demonstrate things like pressure point attacks on you, it is eye opening for sure.

so i taught my friend how to do this. He was mind blown. After the first class he was seeing through the blind fold and looking at the door in my living room.

He was really into mediation already so i figured he would be interested in this.

Im getting better too, i can see the shadows of my hands and arms and fingers as i wave them infront of my blindfolded face.

I'll keep you all posted about my progresss

update: im still working on it. I've learned to "feel colors" and sometimes see flashes of colors of construction paper i use to practice.

I've been able to feel shapes and numbers and but still learning to actually see everything clearly.

I still have small windows of light i see through the blindfold and sometimes get flashes of sight.

A couple people in the class i am in can see clearly through the blindfold now. They can read words and see colors and see everything now. Over time you just have a breakthrough i guess and can start to see.

It's all about reprogramming your mind to realize that your consciousness extends beyond what we can normally perceive.

If it helps the the blind and our feeble minds, I'm all for it. : )

I have seen people catch arrows blindfolded... looks a bit similar.

I can see where it can help some people. I have seen a guy try to catch a beer blindfolded, but he ended up with a broken nose.

With respect to all martial artists (OSU), chopping little bars of inferior cast-metal and low quality cement blocks in two is total bogus. My 14yr old son, or anyone else in good shape for that matter, does that (minus the ballet). Don’t get me wrong, I have deep respect for people who practice martial arts in general, however, asside from the fact that bricks and planks don’t hit back, in real combat you don’t have the luxury of making all sorts of gestures and poses, and you do not have the time to position yourself for maximal impact, your opponent also has the intention to kick your head off, and will not wait for your fancy dance to end.

Sadly, most Pencak styles involve elaborate moves, making them ineffective against people who practice Brazilian Jujitsu, kickboxers or MMA fighters. Now, styles like “Presi Diri” Pencak for instance, are much more suited for actual combat, and are much less focussed on extensive moves and stances, and/or “fighting” inert objects. I bet the fine upstanding guys and gals in the last two videos, would have a real hard time chopping a solid piece of African hardwood, that is only half as thick as a regular board that they usually use for demo’s. They’d be visiting the local hospital for broken and busted elbows and hands, after **trying** to chop a similar sized piece of regular carbon steel in half.

You make some valid and practical points there.
I would offer a few things for your consideration:

Boards and bricks don’t hit back, but that really isn’t the point of learning to break them. Any white belt can be taught to punch & kick through a pine board in one lesson. It’s really a matter of physics: Force = mass x acceleration. The point? To make that happen, you need to learn proper technique.

It doesn’t take any fancy moves or routine, and the training progresses from there. Break a board with the heel of your palm, then break one with a punch, then go through one with a hammer fist, etc. Learn more advanced focus and breathing techniques and you can go through a board just by collapsing your fist from a few inches away. All of those strikes can be employed instantly and effectively in a real confrontation. Certainly sparring and other drills teach us the timing, distance, etc., needed to employ them. A moving, thinking target does make a difference.

Now imagine someone who can not only break multiple boards with several different strikes, but has also been practicing iron bone training for years, so their bones are denser. Someone goes to strike them, and the blocking technique is so powerful it breaks the assailant’s arm. I know of someone who went right through a 4x4 post simply while practicing iron bone conditioning.

Moreover, with several years of iron shirt training, one can condition the body to withstand strikes to sensitive areas. Advanced stages of this training involve objects like boards being broken on your arms, throat, etc. Naturally one wouldn’t drop into the stance and go through the traditional form, but the breathing techniques—expelling air—and tensing conditioned muscles can be easily applied in a combat scenario.

Someone could take a slightly modified version of a boxer's stance and be positioned to use all of those techniques in a confrontation.
No fancy complexity required. Merely time and effort (kung fu).

Very well said. I don't think anyone can argue with any of that. Imagine being kicked in the balls. You are decapacitated, your attacker can kick the living cr@p out of you, or even kill you if they want, even without a weapon. Having learned the ability to ignore pain, you do not collapse from one blow to any area. You stay standing, fight back and stay alive. Difference.
