A friend in France just told me about this and sent me this pic. He said it's from 2017. Don't tell me it's just a coincidence.

So I searched it online.

Believe it or not, a character in a 2017 Asterix Comic series was actually named 'Coronavirus'

The name has been around for decades:

Coronviruses were first discovered in the 1930s when an acute respiratory infection of domesticated chickens was shown to be caused by infectious bronchitis virus (IBV). In the 1940s, two more animal coronaviruses, mouse hepatitis virus (MHV) and transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), were isolated. Learn about the 'Vid here.

"Virology: Coronaviruses". Nature. 220 (5168): 650–650. November 1968. doi:10.1038/220650b0. ISSN 1476-4687. PMC 7086490. [T]here is also a characteristic "fringe" of projections 200 A long, which are rounded or petal shaped ... This appearance, recalling the solar corona, is shared by mouse hepatitis virus and several viruses recently recovered from man, namely strain B814, 229E and several others.

Sars was a Coronavirus. Not a new thing by any means.

Coronavirus is a family of viruses. The term has been around since the 60s. The actual name of the WuFlu is Covid-19. Calling it “coronavirus” is wildly unspecific.

Don't tell me it's just a coincidence.

Okay, but it is.

Adding to what Augustus said , it has nothing to do with coincidences.

Not that unusual considering the character names in the Asterix comics.
Carona meaning crown, many virus have spikes or crowns. Bet the Asterix comic character wore a crown
If a Gaelic doctor called Getafix invents the cure for Coronavirus then yeah, big coincidence

SARS and MERS were both Coronaviruses, considered to be threats to the globe if they had spread far and wide worldwide at the time.
