The only thing more infectious than covid-19 is OP's storytelling

your 'friend' is a liar.

the reason they dress up they way they are for 19 is due to the SUPER high infection rate.

the normal flu does not share the same set of fangs and no one in the world has immunity to it. COV19 is NOT like the normal flu at all and the fact you dont know this makes me question your story.

compromised people or burn victims require all people that enter their rooms to put sterile gowns and all the other stuff on.

Can you point to the exact sentence that makes him a liar

All I've seen are a bunch of illiterates trash the OP.

Of course they are going to adorn themselves with masks and full hazmat suits .... they don't want to be the subject of lawsuits when this is all over.

That's not to say they shouldn't be adorning themselves with masks and full hazmat suits. Just that they would also being so if this was a big nothing burger.

Sorry but this is baffling me. So I have to assume I'm the idiot.

Are you suggesting any more than your doc mate saying...

"gosh, I'm not sure what is gonna happen it's all new and proof of that is the hazmat suits being used more frequently"

That's what I read.

That's not how I read the OP; this is how I read it.

"gosh, I'm not sure what is gonna happen it's all new ... but look my fellow doctors are wearing hazmat suits, and hazmat suits are scary ... so you should be scared"

Aaaah, now I get it.
I disagree but I understand the complaint now.

I do think hazmat suits are scary though.

I was only bothered by the OP using PCP during flu season.

His response:....:...."EXACTLY...and did you ever see your doctors and nurses in full Hazmat ABC gear, like you do now???????

When my mother had her stroke it was determined that she had acquired a pseudomonas infection. Everyone who entered her room was required to don full protective gear. Your friend is full of crap

Im almost 50 , I have seen alot of doctors in my life. not once has one ever been in a hazmat suite . Never.

I lived in a hospital for almost two years with a very sick child. Dr's in Hazmat suits were there back in 2006 and we were subjected to hazmat drs for 3 months when MERSA was gaining ground. I saw them all the time.

Also since people here seem to think anyone cares about their personal "well this happened to me so it must be everywhere" stories, here is one. My roommate in both college and after for two years is the head of the Graduate department at University of Colorado Medical Center micro biology. He is very, very nervous and portions of the research center have been closed as more people get it. His PHD and the fact that he works there daily means he may be more intimate but then again I would never expect you to believe me with stories like this - that's why its pointless to tell them.

Cool. So lets add 100k to that.

Stuff happens. Do your best, do what you can, especially for loved ones, those at risk should be especially careful, and...

GET OVER IT.

People...where in the OP did I ever say "hospital"??? I'll answer; I didn't.

The OP clearly states PCP (Primary Care Physician), and perhaps by implication this means 'doctor's office'. NOT the surgical suite, or the ICU.

So, some of y'all can calm down now.

Take the OP with a grain of salt. It's just what the man (my personal long time friend) said to me. He could be full of it; I'm not a doctor so I don't know. All I do know is he's probably forgotten more about medicine than I will ever know.

That is all.

Wad away.

ETA - Oh, and do whatever you want. It's a free country! Remember?

I liked the OP, you can't be blamed because people can't read.

lie was a strong word but wrong still

doctors in private practices like your family doctor have to see ALLLLL kinds of people with AALLLLLLL kinds of issues like immunodeficiency so bad they need to cover them self's to help lower the risk to the patient

or if a doctor has to do stitches or some other simple procedural thing a family doctor would do that might expose him to blood or other fluids of someone with say ohhhh i dont know HIV they will typically at the very least put a mask with eye shields on.

just because one or two people who are not in the medical field think its strange and doesnt happen allot because they havent seen it doesnt really mean much

Well now that you know I expect you to show some more respect.

But you didn't read the OP, that's my only complaint here. You are arguing against points that weren't made.

Nowhere was it said that these things are unheard of. Just that they are becoming more common.

Why is the idea that doctors are worried so offensive?

Look out the window.

Would you agree that people are wearing more facemasks than usual? Not that people have never worn them before... Just more than usual.

Yeah, a lot of us know someone who has died, or is dying of this now. And I know a lot of nurses who are probably working themselves to death in the hot areas at the moment. It would be great if people would stop calling this a fake news media hoax.

Statistically speaking your wrong most people dont know anyone who died from it. What is the US population 326million. Creating panic just makes others decide not to take this seriously.

So everyone needs to stop this and simply tell people to take precautions. When its all said and done the models will be wrong what we wont know is if this was do to actions taken or simply the model was wrong.

But i will say its better to be cautious then have the worst case scenarios become reality. But heres the problem this wont be the first or the last major pandemic so we will have to ask ourselves are we going to destroy the world economy every time a new virus is created?

We cant do this over and over so somehow a better method will be needed to contain the next one.

Probably, but 1918 was the last comparable incident. Spanish flu is where all of the policies are coming from.

That's scarier than any doom porn.

the Spanish flu is actually pretty interesting to learn about and see how they figured out ways to halt contraction

sad how many people it killed.

it is obvious this current bug isn't a world ender but the next one might be imagine something like a long incubation time airbone hemorrhagic fever like Ebola. at least we as a whole world are getting practice for the big one if it ever comes
