I returned home from shopping this afternoon and was busy unloading groceries until well after dark. After I finished, I looked up at the stars and the 1/4 moon that was low on the western horizon. What appeared to be an exceptionally bright planet above and to the right of the moon. is a mystery to me I have never noticed before.

I read an article about an approaching comet that was growing unexpectedly brighter than scientists thought possible. I think it was Atlas that is supposed to be visible in a month or 2. Could this be it? If it is, you need to get out and see it if it's still there.

Venus should be in the western sky now and it is extremely bright

I think the comet wont be visable to the naked eye till later in april. Just a guess, maybe venus?

Edit: you should be able to get a real good look at the comet though sometime in may, when it smacks into the earth and destroys all life. Have a nice evening!

I'm pretty sure, that is Jupiter...

EDIT TO ADD:

Astronomy magazine's website, would make Venus more likely...

We've already covered this in other threads...

The Corona virus was released to get us all sheltered in place so when Atlas hits our moon in May and the whole world comes to an end, at least we will be in our own homes with ample amounts of TP.

I thought that but I have never seen Venus that bright. "It was bright". Probably 10 times brighter than the moon.
I cant see it now. I don't think it was Venus.

Maybe Venus, but it was bright. Maybe it was so bright because I had my night watcher taken down last month.

Download the ap Skyview, then point your phone at it, and it will tell you exactly what it is. I think usually its Jupiter. You can point Skyview any direction, even at the ground and see where planets, stars and the Sun are, in real time

There is an app called "skyview" that you point it at the heavens and names every star, constellation, satellite that you point it at. May just be for apple? It is the most amazing app I have yet to find.
Opps, see the same has just posted!
