So first they cripple the economy for our safety and then they don't do anything to keep us fed?

Unexpected events happen in life. That's why any financial advisor would say to have several months to a years worth of savings to fall back on.

No offense to anyone, but I don't want a check for 1,200 dollars going to everyone just in case they need it.

On top of that, it only accounts for 300 billion of the 2~ trillion package. I promise there is plenty of other wasteful spending.

The whole thing is botched. Between that and post 9/11 wars, we're just blowing money at this point. We're screwed.

And I don't understand it all, but President Trump and his treasury secretary have now taken control of the US money supply. The FED is pretty much out of the picture in some ways. That's what some people who understand currency transactions are saying today.

I don't know why, but a lot of people are very excited about this merging of the Federal Reserve and the office of the US president.

Id be excited if we aidited the Fed

The unemployment aspects of the bill are so generous, many people will ask to be laid off in order to get a pay raise.

Do you have a source for this claim, or is this just your opinion?

In South Carolina Lindsey Graham said that when you add the federal and state together it will come to $24 an hour for each laid-off person.

Are you saying that this is a bad thing?

Those eligible to collect unemployment in their state would get an extra $600 a week in benefits for up to four months. That payment is quite generous, experts said — about 156% larger than the current $385-a-week nationwide average.

Money can't just be thrown around. It's a bad thing.

We all pay into unemployment, but that doesn't mean it should be 4 months of higher pay than someone got originally, and yes some will abuse it.

The whole country didn't shut down, but we're acting like it with this spending. We will all pay dearly for it.

Trumps also seizing the means of production, demanding private business' to build certain stuff. It's gonna be a wild one for the next two months!

Source?

“The Defense Production Act is in full force, but haven’t had to use it because no one has said NO! Millions of masks coming as back up to States.”

— President Trump, in a tweet, March 24, 2020

″I do not for the life of me understand the reluctance to use the federal Defense Production Act.”

— New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D), at a news conference, March 24

Here's my source.

I was half joking. Since his tweet calling for GM to make stuff was a little over the top.

Although, I find it funny how he picks on GM.

Trump bragged about signing the biggest relief spending ever like it's some badge of honor.

The federal government on every level just OKed packages and implied more to come that will cost more than the post 9/11 wars.

America lost today

This shows that our debt doesn't really matter.

So F it lets throw Bernie in there, we just showed we got a license to print money.

Most of the times it is, but sometimes outsourcing is needed. When it comes to manufacturing a global presence might be needed to tap into different markets, which creates innovation, or more chances of progress.
I think it becomes a problem when the cheap stuff is entirely made somewhere else, and then sold within' the nation where the company has their head quarters.

Instead of chanting USA! USA! USA!, now the chants should be USSA!

USSR has been dismantled USSA has been assembled.

Welcome to the United Socialist States of America.

If this were in any way socialist it wouldn't be the big corporations getting the bulk of the payouts with little to no oversight.
So... furthest thing from socialist. Crony capitalism at its finest with a tiny kickout to the people. Just enough so the masses don't revolt against this insane injustice against the people, and they continue to forgive/forget the corporate ownership of our government.

You missed the mark(s)

You should probably try reading, comprehending and then quoting directly the content, the context you are referring to dude.

For example...when he said "many people will ask to be laid off in order to get a pay raise." I asked for a source for this claim.

But sense you are in the mood to play the part of CareWeMust, perhaps you could provide the source?

How much freakin bail outs has GM taken over the years? It's time for them to step up. The government has lost over 10 billion bailing out GM. They owe the US public.

Here's an update from today:

Update (March 27): Trump on Friday said he was using the Defense Production Act to compel GM to produce ventilators, saying the automaker was “wasting time” in negotiations with the government. The president in a memorandum directed Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar to “use any and all authority available under the Act to require General Motors Company to accept, perform, and prioritize contracts or orders for the number of ventilators that the Secretary determines to be appropriate.”

Same source as my previous message.

The reason? GM wants to negotiate the price before they build something that will save lives. There's no way they would get a bad deal from the government, they were already bailed out by Obama so they would still come out ahead no matter what. But instead of making the items and helping to save lives, they want to screw around negotiating the terms first. This is unacceptable in our current situation in my opinion and I would put as much pressure on them as legally possible for wasting time like they have.

I agree with you. But there's bad blood between Trump and GM. I can understand why they are hesitant. Ford has already stepped up to the plate, why do you need more then one auto maker?

Well, I guess there should have been money in there, to fix the unemployment website first, at least here in MI.

People have been trying for a week, and can't get a claim to go through. Even at 4 am.

Doesn't do squat if you can't sign up for it.

They don't have to ask. Many corporations and businesses alike are furloughing people with the direct intent of freeing up cash flow knowing the government will pay the people.

This deal is bad for both principled conservatives and liberals alike. For true conservatives (which few are left), this bill is laden with overspending and handouts. For true liberals (again, few left), it gives money to the same corporations who don't pay taxes, ship jobs overseas, and screw us many ways over.

This bill is horrible. Written out of fear, incompetence, but probably both.
