My son is in Ohio and was laid off due to the virus shutting down their company. He filed on Monday and they said he would get a little over $300/wk. He checked today and they said it would be $466 or something like that. I don't know where you guys are getting the amounts you are, but the amount is based on your previous income, unless it has changed dramatically it's not going to be any $24/hr.

It was just approved by the Senate. Is not in effect yet.

People who are unemployed do the coronavirus Hysteria will be eligible for what amounts to $24 an hour of tax free unemployment benefits.

A lot of workers will be begging for their boss to lay them off.

How do you get that from a one time check of $1200 ?

The federal government is adding $600 per week to whatever you receive from State unemployment. It is unrelated to the $1,200 payment.

Where at any time on this Planet has anyone got paid for doing nothing, it all sounds to good to be true , so it probably is. If they really can do this, why are their any homeless or poor people?. All this are promises in the land of "Gunna doo" No doubt it will all be in the small print. Two weeks away from Marshal law when all bets will be off anyway.

I think that’s a mistake. I think that $600 figure is the lowest someone will get or it’s what everyone will get.

I imagine there will soon be jobs available with government contracted agencies, and then there is always the draft.

Army Asks Retired Soldiers in Health Care Fields to Come Back for COVID-19 Fight

The U.S. Selective Service System also owns a yet-to-be activated standby plan known as the Health Care Personnel Delivery System, colloquially known as the "doctor draft," that would "provide a fair and equitable draft of doctors, nurses, medical technicians and those with certain other health care skills if, in some future emergency, the military's existing medical capability proved insufficient and there is a shortage of volunteers." That proposed mechanism, however, is designed for use only in wartime and in connection with a broader national mobilization effort, with the approval of Congress and the president.

You take the 600 bucks and tax it as a gift which is 42% so if they don't take it on the front end they will get their tax money on the back end when you file next year. So the 600 bucks in reality will only be348.00 which is an average pay check after taxes and insurances and other deductions

Could you source that information for us?

For US tax purposes, a gift (as opposed to a prize, or winnings from gambling) is not taxable if the amount is less than $15,000 per year (for 2019), I believe.

So, $600 @ week x 12 weeks (the proposed enhancement period, I believe) = $7200, well below the “gift tax” limitation.

In Cali, UI payments are based on what your last income was at the job that you were laid off from. There is a max cap payment for those who were paid in the upper bracket, but even those payments were just barely enough to pay bills for most(People who make more usually have bigger mortgages). What I’m getting at is we need to read the fine print of what actually people will getting based on their last income. Not just look at the maximum payment listed.

www.edd.ca.gov...

Edit: Then you have clear across the country in a less lucrative state South Carolina and quote, from the state website,

“ Amount and Duration of Unemployment Benefits in South Carolina

Your weekly benefit amount will be approximately 50% of your average weekly wage during your base period, subject to a weekly minimum of $42 and a maximum of $326. Benefits are available for up to 20 weeks. For an estimate of your weekly benefit, use the DEW’s Benefits Estimator.”

Perhaps I wasnt being clear?

Im not interested in how much and who much yada yada, yada!
Normally I chuckle at Govt and authority suits who turn into the 'Amity Mayor' when presented with a problem ?

So far in this circus, no shrill cries of terror from the bean counters, too 'nice' for my taste.
Speaking of circus's, we all know about the usual 'Panis et paneii' approach to govt...Bread & Circus's ?
If we are all at home binging on tv series a rate of a boxed set per evening and the upsurge in 'streaming services'? How long does TeeVee last as an opiate for the public ? Not to mention living alongside others they never see from day to day. Now they can be chatting and discussing and realising and heaven forfend thinking for themselves for a minute ?

Being one of those wierdos who does Ham Radio, Im hearing some chatter from an area not known for being wildly radical, that all is not as placid as it appears on the surface.

Well, I just got my first check today and since i worked last week my check was for $187.00

No extra $600 on top of that. My weekly benefit is $400

i make $18 an hour and I worked 16 hours last week.

I am on standby because at my job I have to go into peoples apartments to fix stuff.

I am in Eastern WA. and all my tenants came back from Spring break from Seattle.

I couldn't find any info saying I would get an extra $600...
