And now in Khayelitsya they begin a lockdown and have had their running water turned off.

I think there may be riots and civil disorder very quickly in those parts.

Why did they shut the water off?

Why indeed ?

I just read an article when someone in authority said it could be a water pressure issue, or it could be supply, or it could be monies owed meaning it has been reduced to a 'running trickle'...

either way, it's bollocks. especially if it's over unpaid bills, during this lockdown.

I was driving out of CPT earlier back home, it was around 17:30.
No traffic, no bumper-to-bumper...

Things in SA are a little scary, I'm prepped though, have been for a while.
Freezers are stuffed, guns have been cleaned etc.

In this country we always plan for the worst and hope for the best.
I'll be keeping a close on the government and how they are impacting our rights to freedom.

They're already using data from cellular providers to triangulate our locations (supposedly to see locations sick people visited) but if there's one rule in SA, it's don't trust the government.

Best to you and your kin, keep everything locked and buckle down.
PM if you need anything.
Godspeed.

So, the defense force could patrol country’s streets beyond 21-day lock down. Deploying troops seems like a good idea, but when things get critical they could easily become bandits, terrorizing and extorting the citizens. Our military is more of a welfare org for 'soldiers' rather than patriots.
They are also not necessarily aligned with Ramaphosa. Could possibly spark a coup d'etat.

Our soldiers are a joke. I am surprised they have not gone on strike yet. Again.

I saw videos of our fine fighting force in Jhb. I hope they don't need to do any running because clearly fitness levels have been relaxed a bit since I was in the Force (SADF).

First Covid-19 deaths in the Western Cape, South Africa:

South Africa has recorded its first fatalities due to the coronavirus, the health ministry announced on Friday. In a short statement nine hours into the official 21-day lockdown, health minister Zweli Mkhize said two people had died as a result of Covid-19.

That does sound very bad. I hope things don’t escalate further.

I’ve always wondered why Afrikaners didn’t form their own nation from part of South Africa after apartheid ended. It would have been the first and only First World nation in Africa.

What's the purpose of weapons during a crisis?

Here's a hypothetical situation..

Another family comes for food, and the family
with food & weapons kills the beggars
instead of sharing their beans & rice.

Unfortunately there are people who
will actually follow this behavior.

That sounds asinine to shut off water unless it is unsafe.

Right? But Africa is hard to understand as an outsider. So I was hoping there was some explanation.

Man I can't imagine. And people here in the US think they have it bad. They have no idea.

God didn’t say He would sort it out, the road to the end becomes worse and worse.
So bad Jesus returns lest there is no one left, no one.

Keep your head down, have a plan, then another just in case

Not going to argue, you are most likely correct in your interpretation, but on Facebook everybody is posting all snuggly that their God has got this covered. It is this false sense of complacency that makes me worry for people.

Reminds me of a sermon I once heard about a guy that decides to stay in his house during a flood because "God will save me."

As the water rises, he goes up to the 2nd floor. A guy in a boat comes by, but the man declines to be taken away because "God will save me." As he is forced to make his way up to the roof, another boat comes. "God will save me."

Finally, with the water up to the very top of the roof and nowhere else to go, a rescue helicopter comes. The man still declines. "God will save me."

The man drowns.

When he gets to heaven, he meets God and asks "Why didn't you save me?"

God says "I sent two boats and a helicopter, what do you want?"

Here's another scenario. A couple thieves come to steal your beans and rice and rape your women. You kill them to protect your family.

Let's hope you never find out. Your scenario is slanted and one dimensional.

I saw. Spring break, Mardi Gras etc. The only plus side is those stupid celebrities going crazy inside their Mansions without their regular staff/entourage.

I can imagine Madge mopping those 5000 Sq. M floors.

Like a virgin.

Take this with a pinch of salt.

Like I said in the op, there are communal water access points.

If all of it were shut down the township would've imploded by now.

Any truth to this?

It's too bad our news doesn't look at much going on around the world.
