Not willing to be a victim, shopper tackles an active shooter in an Omaha grocery store.

source

"Tom Wenzl was shopping at an Omaha Hy-Vee when a man entered and began firing shots.

As Hy-Vee customers and staff scrambled to get out, Wenzl stayed, ducking behind a checkout counter.

“I hunkered down – he was in five or six – I crouched and waited.  When he came through, that’s when I tackled him,” Wenzl says."

His decision to fight back and stop the shooter saved lives and prevented another mass shooting possibility.

A true hero
and also more guns were not needed to beat guns, just goes to show heroism and strength come from within not from packing a weapon.

Let’s try this scenario

If you were with your family at the mall. A spree killer walked in and began shooting .

There was no room to run no place to hide and he was heading straight for the people you hold most dear .

Which weapon would you rather be armed with strength of character or a Remington 870 ?

I wouldn't use a shotgun in a crowded place.

His actions were commendable .

I just don’t think we should make a habit out of it .

Get a concealed carry permit or open carry wherever you’re allowed .

Exercise your rights .

I doubt anyone would be carrying a loaded shotgun on them “just in case” . Lol

But why not?

A clear line of fire is a clear line of fire .

Blasting away indiscriminately with the 870 does enforce that six foot rule for the Covid though...

You guys are serious you wouldn’t use a shotgun ?

Chances are any confrontation is going to take place inside 10 yards .

At 10 yards a full choke 12 gauge has a pattern of 9 inches . It doesn’t have the power to blow through multiple walls were you don’t know if you have a clear line of fire . And best of all you are far more likely to hit what your shooting at .

What would you use?

Call me old-fashioned .

But if I’m going to get in a gunfight and someone says “do you want this shotgun” .

I don’t think I’d say “ no thanks I’ve got a pistol “. Lol

Glad to hear it, very glad he chose to fight back, but he got extremely lucky anyone thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

If you are unarmed you do the best you can like him, but if you have the option of being armed that's a much better place to be when a gunman shows up to do evil.

You had me at "870". Heart emoji

Probably a CC 9mm or 380 would be more appropriate but I am not much for appropriateness.

The shotgun was actually arbitrary .

But since it’s the topic.

A pistol is what most people think of but it makes no tactical sense . If you were going up against someone with a AK or AR-15 why would you want to do it outgunned ?

There’s a reason cops still carry shotguns and it’s not to leave them behind when somebody is shooting . The knockdown power is far superior to any pistol . Plus because of it’s lower muzzle velocity there’s less risk to civilians .

“The only purpose for a pistol is to fight your way back to the rifle you should have never laid down.”

Clint Smith

Pistols have great stopping power at close range.

The hollow points ensure that while preventing collateral damage from pass throughs.
