The video linked in the article explains it quite well. It's using it's own "selfy-stick" nav cams apparently.

Nope. The 'selfie' is actually a composition of many pictures. The arm is moving and pictures are being taken, and then the selfie is patched together using these pictures.

The articulated arm is never in focus, the arm camera is just taking a picture.
However I don't like particularly like panoramas NASA have used that are problematic because they are not true images.
