Ford didn't take any bailout money in 2008 and GM paid back what they borrowed.

That’s great they are stepping up to the plate, like WW2, they were pumping out aircraft parts and engines. Respirators and hospital items they would mass produce easily.

And yes Ford didn’t take a bailout, I did not know that GM paid it back, that’s good to hear.

I think it is brilliant the way Trump is leveraging the private sector to helps us overcome this Wuhan virus. We have a huge advantage in the U.S. with our first class private infrastructure.

Of course they did..🙄

While their vehicles flew off the shelves through the subprime auto loan fiasco that's bubbling like a witches brew right now..

Gotcha.👌

Yeah... they're in talks while individuals are taking it upon themselves to act, and getting sued for it.

Granted this is Italy, but don't think it wont happen here.

By Chloe Kent Share Italian 3D printing start-up Isinnova has saved the lives of ten Covid-19 patients after developing a replacement ventilator valve when supplies at Chiari hospital in Brescia ran dry. However, the firm may now be facing legal action from the manufacturer of the original part, according to Italian newspaper La Stampa.

Yep, a start-up 3d printing company in Italy that is making viable respirator valves at a time when they are critically needed due to shortages is facing a lawsuit for patent infringement.

I don't want ford and gm in talks. Make it first, and make it affordable, otherwise let 3-d printers do the job.

What's the need to turn this in something negative.

No mask for you.

What President Trump should do is make an binding agreement that once the dust settles these companies don't close/move any more factories over seas or south of the border. Didn't GM close three factories here in the US and move them to mexico?

At a $11billion net loss for the United States Taxpayer.

I used to buy a new Chevy every other year but haven't bought one since 2008 and never will.

This is my stance and will always be. I haven't bought a "domestic" vehicle for almost 20 years and I don't see that changing. Not only from the bail out BS, the quality on many is not the same in my opinion.

The bailouts were a colossal mistake and never should have happened

I wonder how soon they could start production and how many they could crank out? Could they produce a ventilator that’s perhaps not as fancy as current models on the marketplace but good enough to do what’s needed (sort of a wartime version)?

I was surprised to see how inexpensive ventilators are, although I suspect the worldwide stock is sold out and future production already spoken for.

The thought of my lungs clogging up, getting harder and harder to breathe and ending in suffocation fills me with dread.

In some milder cases a cpap or bipap can be used as a ventilator with a little tweeking of their programs.

Back when i worked as an EMT we use a bipap with O2 and with a nebulizer for people with acute asthma where there O2 levels dropped below 60.

This worked even better for pediatrics.
