Here's an interesting find:

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- When it comes to saving lives, God trumps doctors for many Americans.

More than half of randomly surveyed adults -- 57 percent -- said God's intervention could save a family member even if physicians declared treatment would be futile. And nearly three-quarters said patients have a right to demand that treatment continue.

When asked to imagine their own relatives being gravely ill or injured, nearly 20 percent of doctors and other medical workers said God could reverse a hopeless outcome.

The reason why I bring this up is often there is the misconception that believers in God refuse treament and instead pray for people who are dying. This article states the opposite. It says families ask doctors to continue even though "it is hopeless" according to them because God can work a miracle with everyone involved. In fact, there are many many medical testimonies (among others) whereas when people present did all they could do, a miracle did indeed happen. A lot of us equate a miracle to one being where people get better from their ailment or instantly recover from an injury. Although that is one miracle, it's certainly not the only one.

Miracles happen all over the world for people of all or no religions. Muslims might thank Allah, Christians thank the god of the old testament, mormons thank whatever they want to think... point is everyone THINKS their god is the only answer and everyone else is wrong. When you're in America being brainwashed as a child you'll probably grow up thinking it's true. If you're born into Islam you might think that you'll get tons of good sex when you die... IMO most religions are major frauds, especially the "God" of the old testament. Jesus was a good guy if he existed, but imagine if you weren't raised to believe the story - wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to you.

Something is out there that allows miracles to happen, but it isn't limited to jesus or christians by any means

Everyone talks about prayer helping and healing, and the people that believe in it will usually accept what they want to accept and deny what other studies show cause it goes against their beliefs. I think prayer can work personally in some cases, not because the power of "praying to god for help" but the power of the human spirit, which would better explain why miracles all over the world praying or not. The science of Cymatics may be able to figure out some of the "praying benefits", but other than that prayer doesn't help enough to prove it's existence as a benefit, unless you consider it meditation or relaxation time

Page about one of the studies, may have already been posted. Apparently those getting prayed for had more issues than those not getting prayed for, odd 0.o

Something in the news today I thought was relevant to the prior post and the thread topic.

More than half of all Americans believe they have been helped by a guardian angel in the course of their lives, according to a new poll by the Baylor University Institute for Studies of Religion. In a poll of 1700 respondents, 55% answered affirmatively to the statement, "I was protected from harm by a guardian angel." The responses defied standard class and denominational assumptions about religious belief;

Defied assumptions about religous belief...interestsing...

The guardian angel encounter figures were "the big shocker" in the report, says Christopher Bader, director of the Baylor survey that covered a range of religious issues, parts of which are being released Thursday in a book titled What Americans Really Believe. In the case of angels, however, the question is a little stronger than just belief. Says Bader, "If you ask whether people believe in guardian angels, a lot of people will say, 'sure.' But this is different. It's experiential. It means that lots of Americans are having these lived supernatural experiences."

What's interesting about the Baylor findings on guardian angel experiences is that they cross all boundaries.

"There is," he says, a "much broader uncharted range of religious experience among the populace than we expect."

I'd gotten an email on August 18th this year that read the following:

"I know that there are many suffering out there, but I wanted to let you
know that *********'s brother, who was recently diagnosed with what was
supposed to be early stages of Lymphoma cancer, was just given a second
opinion by Johns Hopkins over the weekend that he has an incurable form and they gave him one year without chemotherapy, three to five years with it. He is saved and trusts the Lord as his healer, and says that he will not get chemo because even if he does only have a year he'd rather live it well than be debilitated by chemo. Unfotunately, *****'s younger brother is not taking it well and saying that he hates God for doing this, etc. As background, ****** lost his sister to Lupus a few years back. So please keep their whole family in your prayers, they are like family to me now too."

I just got news last week that the cancer is in full remission and expect a total recovery. Local doctors and those at Johns Hopkins are puzzled and are doing the best they can to try to figure out how. It's indescribable when these things happen to people you know personally.
