Cool, so everyone can run to the bank at the same time, to cash it.

And we can all pay it back later, when we get through this.
Probably with interest.

I'm registering for Direct Deposit. The 38 million Americans who didn't file a tax return last year will be out of luck.

I would wait on a check

Man I’m getting a good laugh watching Republicans support what they would have called socialism yesterday. Just because Donald Trump brought it up.

It's amazing how everything Sanders and Yang argued for that was considered fanciful is now practical.

It's almost like their criticisms of our economy and healthcare system were accurate.

President Trump order the treasury to give every American $1,000.

How do you prove that you are a US citizen?

Well, y'know, assuming I even get one, as I'm uneffected by this woo-flu, at this point in time.

I'll send it back. Help when it's needed, I can deal with. This sort of thing, when it's not, isn't for me. My hypocrisy only goes so far...

Nor am I.

You want to help, Mr. Trump/Congress? Prevent price gouging. Do not allow foreclosures on properties where the owner(s) have been, however temporarily, put out of work. Prevent water, gas, electric, hell, even cable/satellite services from being turned off.

For all of me, they can keep the check.

Guys.... Guys....

I'm honestly not trying to inflame any tensions or start any arguments - and I honestly give full credit to President Trump and his team for this decision ( Kudos, sincerely )... But I have to say it.

If I would have posted a thread just three or four hours ago suggesting that a temporary UBI be offered to offset the financial hardships of Covid-19, y'all would have picked up your copies of Atlas Shrugged, screamed "filthy commie" and straight murdered me.

I'm only pointing this out in the hope that maybe there's a silver lining in this mess that will help some of the more divisive and harmful Partisan rhetoric to tone down going forward.

Maybe?

I don't think you are right about the reaction you would have recieved.

There is a hell of a big difference when the government is essentially asking the whole economy to shut down, and for people to social distance, and socialism during normal times.

Obviously desperate times call for desperate measures. I think this is what needs to be done - but only until the economy is back up and functioning normally.

Unfortunately, I think Congress needs to approve any stimulus package. Nancy Pelosi has told the US House to stay out of session Beyond March 23rd. She does not want to help Americans?

How about making mandatory IRA distributions non-taxable?
Double whammy right now, you have to sell when the market is down and you are are taxed on it.

If you don't understand the difference between people being asked to stay in their homes and to not have meetings over 10 and the effects that has on the economy vs. what normally goes on - then it is clear to me why you support socialism.

Looks like they're pushing ahead with this economic relief package for American citizens. I guess its better then giving the banks trillion dollar bail outs again.

I hope they mess up and send my check with an extra 0 or two.

I've always thought of that too, but I have seen it in the news when it happens and people get a huge check, but they cash it anyways, then the cops show up and hard up county prosecutors charge them with felony theft.

If it happens, don't deposit the check, but make a bunch of phone calls instead.

You can, and should, deposit the check. Just don't spend the extra money.

But I would prefer direct deposit. Going to a bank is not a good idea.

Oh the banks are getting theirs. QE4 and Repo Madness have been well underway.

Remember 2008/2009? The tax payers bailing out the banks? It was not popular. I am speculating this cash giveaway to regular people is in hopes to keep the masses distracted this time. Make them part of the crime.

I would like to see what breaks they give small businesses. No Federal taxes for 6 months? A year? If they owe banks money, maybe slash the interest rates? We are at ZIRP after all huh.

My issues with Yang and Sanders go much further than some social programs... though of the lot Yang was probably the best of the bunch.
