Looks like they're pushing ahead with this economic relief package for American citizens. I guess its better then giving the banks trillion dollar bail outs again.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Tuesday that the Trump administration wants to get emergency funds in Americans’ pockets “immediately” amid the coronavirus crisis. “Americans need cash now,” Mnuchin said during a White House press briefing on the administration’s latest efforts to combat the disease. “I mean now in the next two weeks.” “The president has instructed me that we have to do this now,” Mnuchin added.

No money for you millionaires out there though.

He added that the U.S. is unlikely to send checks to millionaires. “I think it’s clear, We don’t need to send people who make a million dollars a year checks,” Mnuchin said. “I think we’re going to do something that gets money to them as quickly as possible. That may not be an accurate way of doing it. Some people obviously shouldn’t be getting a check for $1,000 but we’ll have an idea at the end of the day of what we will be doing.”

I hope they mess up and send my check with an extra 0 or two.

This is neat and I'll support it, people took a hit economically from this Chinese Virus.

My wife is a manager at Talbots and they have reduced their employees to Two(2) a day, they normally have anywhere from 4 to 5 at any give time, bunch of old rich ladies.

Hope it's more than the $100 Obama sent out in 2009.

Yea, my wife's work is closed until further notice (restaurant biz). Luckily she saves a lot of her money for times like this. Not sure if this check is really going to help a lot of people or not.

I would not give money. Make it MRE's. Basically free food. Drop ship them weekly and no evictions for a year. Good enough. Don't like MRE's then don't request them. Get your own food. Nobody starves, nobody goes homeless and nobody buys crap they do not need because there is no money involved.

Cool, so everyone can run to the bank at the same time, to cash it.

And we can all pay it back later, when we get through this.
Probably with interest.

Guys.... Guys....

I'm honestly not trying to inflame any tensions or start any arguments - and I honestly give full credit to President Trump and his team for this decision ( Kudos, sincerely )... But I have to say it.

If I would have posted a thread just three or four hours ago suggesting that a temporary UBI be offered to offset the financial hardships of Covid-19, y'all would have picked up your copies of Atlas Shrugged, screamed "filthy commie" and straight murdered me.

I'm only pointing this out in the hope that maybe there's a silver lining in this mess that will help some of the more divisive and harmful Partisan rhetoric to tone down going forward.

Maybe?

Did he say how much was going to be spent ?

Unlikely doesn't mean "No money for you millionaires out there though"

I'm registering for Direct Deposit. The 38 million Americans who didn't file a tax return last year will be out of luck.

My first thought was that it sounds pretty socialist but like I said in the OP, at least they're not giving it to the Banks this time....

Exactly, and you know there will be those who blow it on a new TV or Xbox and later whine about not having food to eat. If they're going to do it, they at least need to limit what the funds can be spent on.

How would that be enforced?

If the gubment wants to give free money out they better expect a good portion of it to be spent on booze and hookers

I was already short of cash before the virus, so if someone doesn't like this, endorse me the check.

In all for helping people that this crisis puts out of work but I'm not really supportive of everyone getting a check.

Why would you be flattered ? , the virus is pushing the world to recession and all Trump can do is throw money you don't have around to win favour among voters ... if I were you I'd be worried.

There are no details as yet so until they are known nothing is known.
