The Legislature’s lunatic surrender to Gov. Cuomo

..........The Legislature voted to give Cuomo an unprecedented right to declare an emergency and then suspend state or local laws as he chooses. Few Democratic legislators even objected to the obscene abdication........

Sadly, Assembly Democrats even rejected the GOP minority’s proposal to require state officials to update the Legislature on the effectiveness and distribution of the $40 million emergency appropriation to fight COVID-19 — even though Cuomo has squandered untold millions on dubious economic-development programs and projects.

The Legislature’s surrender calls to mind the late Henry Stern’s biting comment about the City Council: “At least a rubber stamp leaves an impression.”

Anyone else get the impression this virus is intentionally being used for political reasons by Democrats. It is almost like a test run of several powers Dems have been demanding to see how it goes and the peoples reaction to it.

One notable example that Democrats ignored came in a tweet in response to empty grocery stores etc. The person commented that if people think empty grocery stores is an issue and basic necessities are not available then they will surely not like a socialist style government or economy.

Good lord... and here we go, wonder how authoritarian the little "liberal" is going to go with this.

Also wonder how many other "enlightened" areas are going to follow suit.

No I don't at all. The virus does not discriminate . Leadership should be fair and just. I've mentioned a few times that the people in charge of our daily life , well, they sure are not mentally fit to be in charge of my life, but... sadly what can I do about it.

What you see in America has now happened worldwide, nothing to do with govt. Its called "survival" and those that have the wits to see what is taking place and stay one step a head of any game that freedom is being taken away from us. No jobs, no money, society then becomes one big outdoor prison led by evil intentions that can maintain power to crush the thoughts of the free will minds of its citizens.

Civilians allowing power to be given to Government like this are to blame. "For your safety" or "Keeping order" are familiar refrains.

Most nowadays will willingly trade promise of "safety" for someone coming along who says they can solve the problem and grant powers beyond state or national constitutions.

What "if" that was plan all along?

Do you think powers granted will be relinquished? Kinda like that temporary Patriot Act.

Yea I would rather suffer a bit more than turn over that level of power to the govt...

Fool me once (9/11), I wont bite a second time from that apple.

Except for the fact Democrats have now been caught trying to add unrelated cornovirus funding in the bill that finally got rejected. Dems tried adding abortion funding and tried reinstating food stamp aid that was cut, neither of which have anything to do with the virus.

The powers granted to Cuomo only came about March 4th 2020 and never mind the fact Trump started taking action on this back in late December early January. Of course people would never know because the the Democrat lapdog media and the latest failed coup attempt via impeachment.

As far as whats occurring in other countries my primary concern is the US, the country I live in.

I woke up this morning and if i had I just woken up after a month long coma, I'd have thought aliens had invaded, the extremes were going.. I mean, I advocate caution, but # a brick this is like a terribly scripted troma movie right now..

I think the OP might mean, however, that this could be being used, not caused.. an opportunity? Either way, only a real monster would use panic to their advantage, and the way this is now being portrayed is definitely doing a good job of causing panic.

I was at a large mall yesterday, and am now mindful of the fact that if I did get it from a less cautious individual, I won't even know till it's beyond control..

Ahh, good thing I stocked up on amber fluid.

I mean, events canceled. can't get together in a group...for any reason. National Guard. State of emergency. All for YOUR protection. Just hand it to them on a plate.

Anyone that knows NY and are familiar with cuomo will automatically know this is a very bad idea. What bothers me is this:

But Deputy Majority Leader Mike Gianaris said negotiations over the weekend provided for a 2021 sunset date and language would allow the Legislature to undo any executive order it deemed an overreach.

www.politico.com...
Does that mean he can keep that power till 2021?
