Here in Lincoln Nebraska they are attempting to get 22,000 laptop carrying cases for students to bring their school laptops home becasue they are ramping up to close the public schools asap. FYI middle of the country in the middle of nowhere

Doesn't mean anything. Nebraska is also where they have one of the nation's top infectious disease quarantine facilities. You got dose of both Wuhan and Diamond Princess evacuees. Not to mention, you have a large University there with all of the students and faculty from all over that will bring in and the attendant travel. Guess what? It's Spring Break, yo! Wait til they come home from that one this year ...

I have memories of competing up in Lincoln. They roll out the red carpet at NU.

I do wonder what will happen with patients who already have to go in to the Dr for treatments once a week or more often, and have to travel one to three cities away ?

My husband`s oncologist/hematologist is screening everyone coming for chemo etc already. He is on prednisone and gets a shot of platelet stimulationg VERY expensive meds and has to have bloodwork done every week before the weekly shot.

And he works 3 cities away as well. The stress of worrying about all of this is already causing a drop in his platelets , if he can`t get to work or get the shot (considered "chemo"--its a biologic, can`t just pick it up at the local pharmacy) .

I am a bit surprised kiddo is at school today. Couple of other major metros called the last day before Spring Break, but it won't surprise me if the break gets extended. They already sent what looks like a supply packet, and they all have iPads. So we will see ....

To the OP.

1) This is hearsay upon hearsay upon hearsay, also known as scuttlebutt.

2) Why pass this stuff on?

3) It's scare mongering.

4) Even if true, the counties that have done this, are leaving groceries and pharmancies open at the minimum.

Well the vast majority of Americans are not stocked to live in their house for 2 or 3 weeks, so this would be an impossible thing to do unless we were talking about a high legality rate like with bird flu and then the risk of what this would do would be acceptable.

Also remember at least 30% of the population would still need to go to work, or we would lose things like electricity, heating, gas etc etc.

Yeah, good luck with that. Stores would get looted, banks robbed, etc. It would be complete anarchy if they tried to quarantine the entire country at once.

Whether or not martial law/statewide quarantine's are imminent is almost irrelevant at this point.

Panic mode has been activated among the populace.

I live in a very rural area..north east kingdom vermont. Today I went to town to pick up some Hawaiian chicken marinade, and a few other small things.

Upon walking into our local grocery I was somewhat shocked..

No flour, no suger, no rice, canned goods aisle was almost barren, no toilet paper and they were getting low on eggs bread and milk..

I am not a doom porn kinda guy, I take most internet hype with a grain of salt.. But seeing those shelves empty was sobering..

Husband's company has been running out ahead of this for a long time. Two days ago, they shut down all travel anywhere in the world and anyone who did travel would go into mandatory 2-week self-isolation (paid) while working from home as much as they could.

Today they laid out guidelines that all facilities were to implement working from home as much as possible and explore staggered hours, shifts, distancing, and other strategies to isolate those who must report on-site. Husband already works from home as many as two to three days as it is. I expect him to be at home a lot more in the coming weeks.

Read this thread about store lines and then went to the store. Here it is an hour later and I just got back from the grocery store, in the City of Corona no less. Big store. Had to park far away. Had to wait outside for 15 minutes in rain to get in because the store was what they called "full to capacity". They only let 10 people in at a time.

No toilet paper. Water almost gone. Soup half gone. Got in line for check ALL THE WAY IN THE BACK OF THE STORE!!!!!!!!!!

Must have been 50 people ahead of me with FULL CARTS! I just needed cat food.

Why would I need to know him? The actual message is from someone named Crystal.

So someone heard from someone who heard from someone who heard from someone else. But trust me, it's real I swear guys!!!

My patient's mom showed me the exact same message. Someone who knows someone who knows someone and it was sent to her.

So tell me about Crystal, what's she like, how well do you know her?

Funny you should mention that. I just got back from the store here in NY. Same thing, toilet paper-gone, water-pretty well picked over, soup- took a pretty good hit, to add: The bread isle- completely empty, meat section- nothing left, frozen food isle- not much left to it. Thing everyone in my area took their crazy pills. Normally around here the stores are pretty much empty at 5/6AM, today a lot of cars in the parking lot.
