I would say that's true.

I used to watch competitive starcraft 2 back in the day and some of the commentators made it fun to watch. Making jokes and having fun. I don't know what happened but now that huge $$$$ is involved everybody started talking like professional sports talkers. Boring!

I also can't take games like cod or fortnight seriously. There's high level skill involved but little strategy. And boring to watch IMO.
