It goes on to say the number of Respiratory Therapists would be the limiting factor.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner. Thats 100% correct. That being said most ICU level nurses have enough experience to set up and run a ventilator in the most basic modes like PC, VC, SIMV, AC. But if you need more than that its a crap shoot if your RCP is not there

Well you make a paper mache Ventilator with all of that TP

Thats why I have been concerned. Most modern healthcare systems have about 5%-30% extra capacity in terms of beds. Thats not gear or staff mind you. Dedicated Pediatric facilities are even tighter. Mine typically runs 85-95% full. There is no surge capacity

How about the average grocery store only has 3 days or normal stock on hand...normal... We do live in a bubble world and if anything good comes from all this is that people might realize just that.

It should be on its way out by summer. I’m not planning to socialize much either. I’m pretty much in isolation anyways so I won’t suffer having to do that. It’s wise to plan for a forced isolation or quarantine.it only takes one person you know to test positive and you’re on the call list. Wondering what my “case number” might be lol

Let's see, the wife volunteers at the library, with a bunch of older women and they had a two hour meeting today planning book sales to help fund the library. Also every Wednesday, she goes to knitting at the library with about five other older women. We got a few funerals to go to too. And then there is bringing soup for the daughters and grandkids when they get sick, seems like I make a real lot of soups because there is always someone sick and I make enough for everyone in the house as prevention. We also babysit for the granddaughters kid sometimes too.

I am hoping that in ten years I may be able to become a hermit. Not yet though. Oh, I also got pinnacle every thursday night.

how many ventilators is the " correct " number for a given population

or more precisely - how many per 100 000 " general population " ?

its not a trick question

There is a difference between belief and full blown terror in something .
Some are just too terrified of their own shadow even .
Some like to terrify others.

Nobody is saying the entire world or a LOT of the world has it. Of course none of us know people. Let’s see if we do 6 weeks from now

Don’t believe the hype.

In July, we won’t be talking about this anymore.

This too, shall pass. like all the others.

What makes you think in July it'll be over.

Winter is almost gone and the virus is spreading more and killing more people.

It's actually going in the opposite direction of what you said.

Panic is not good but denying reality is lot worse.

That's good but it's a matter of time.

Right now nothing is working against the virus. It's expanding fast.

Extremely serious question for the EMTs RNs and MDs:

I was fortunate enough to buy a DDT-2A oxygen concentrator (2L/m 90%) before the price went through the roof.

I did a bit of study on entrachial intubation, and decided that it was a procedure that should not be attempted at home by a novice. My understanding is that if I could avoid puncturing the "victim's" lung, serious anesthetics are required to prevent the patient from rejecting/ejecting the intubation.

But, compared to a mechanical ventilator, doesnt entrachial intubation provide about the same result with less danger of injuring the patient's lungs?

appologies - my question was rather obtuse

i am not particularly interested in how many are currently operational

as multiple people think we should have " MOAR "

how many more ?? was what i was really fishing for

exp given that with the campacity you cite - all 1st world countries had " adequate " in 2018

Way i see it is....if 30% get ill out of 100k (conservative)
That is 30k people.
15% is 3500

Did this math in my head...so could be wrong.
