What good is money if it just sits there doing nothing? Tesla was paid, and he sought better deals with Westinghouse. If anything you should have beef with Westinghouse who took advantage of him.

Tesla was paid pennies compared to his original contract with Edison for a royalty percentage on his inventions (which would have amounted to tens of millions of dollars in 1900 currency). When Tesla called him on it and asked for the real money, Edison shrugged him off and told him that it was not a serious deal. He explained that is how business works. Tesla, not being a businessman but a visionary inventor, RELIEVED Edison of his original contract. Needless to say, Tesla died, penniless in his hotel room.

And, any true rich businessman does not have a vault filled with cash. Their wealth is net worth, not cash. It's in investments, real estate, and other business ventures that spawn new businesses and hire people, and pay THEM wages, to perform a job.

Imagine that, a rich person paying someone to do a job. As for the rate of pay, that is a negotiation between the person and their one doing the hiring. Don't like the pay offered, either go somewhere else that values your skills more, or get new/augment your skills.

"This country could use some redistribution."

The only thing Bernie wants to redistribute is your money into his pocket.

You don’t create a better society by tearing people down. You create a better society by lifting people up.

Spoken like a true democrat lying to Itself, as there is no eventual satisfaction regarding a future 'cure' (the fixing) of humanity other than exterminating it. Problem solved. I have an idea that this may have happened before.

Not to be that guy, but the economy that feeds your 401k is powered by consumerism. It would be a glorified savings account with paltry returns without it.

Everybody... buy more stuff. I need a new computer chair and a month-long sojourn to Paraguay.

the rich hardly suffered anything back then, the shift in society happened because the elderly died off and a young ignorant generation took over without elders influencing them, whatever reforms that were brought about to democratize the west only happened because the new young rich decided to share their knowledge and promote education and general welfare.

but why do you suggest they be put in check? they aren't rich for no reason you know, they earned it, not you or anyone else and they owe us nothing, tell me what have you done to earn it? work hard? well guess what, your suffering is from your own choices, from reaching beyond your means and placing yourself in a position you can barely handle, you gave up on the path to success and surrendered to apathy and mediocrity.

the real problem in America is that too many people are given a false sense of worth and become prideful of themselves who then proceed to aim beyond their reach and means, they refuse to accept their limits and feel nothing but resentment for their failures, forever ungrateful and miserable because of it, even though they refuse to do anything to change it, just expecting change from the outside. in the end theyll always be miserable even if they get everything they demand.

guess what, those rich are special because they know and understand how society really works and positioned themselves to make the most of it, you and i didn't even see the starting line let alone where to position ourselves, thinking too highly of ourselves and not connecting with the right people and took things too lightly.

Thanks for elaborating exactly what I was pointing out... what was the point of your post? I know edison was a bad man, but you need to look at the bigger picture of what his money did for the overall scale of getting electricity going.

Desperation brings innovation, war brings technological advances, you cant doubt that. Stop assuming about my final stand points on subjects it's getting tiresome.

That's a lie. His royalties were with westinghouse, and he gave then up to save the company, to see his work not fail.

Tesla only worked for edison for maybe max a year.

Nobody with any actual money stashes it away like Scrooge McDuck.

The entire idea that people who have wealth just put it under a mattress or in a vault is asinine.

People with money want to make more of it.

They invest it, start companies with it, offer it as capital for others to start their own businesses, grow their own companies which hire ~gasp~ people who get a paycheck, who spend it and the cycle goes on.

As far as Edison goes, he was a $#%#$%# monster.

Do you know that he used to kill people's dogs who didn't do business deals with him?

With his cane, no less.

When they came to answer the door.

There's your hero.

/facepalm.

It's hilarious that people think millionaires and billionaires just have a vault with all their money in it somewhere. Once they realize what net worth means, exactly how will they distribute a billionaires net worth that's tied up in countless different investments?

It's about the model of efficiency for supply and demand.

A perfect example is amazon and tesla, the technology behind how they operate has become so efficient that wealth distribution to workers, who would have otherwise made up most of the labor, is taken over by automation. The distribution of wealth isnt going to workers, it's now concentrated in just a small pocket of people.

The more efficient the supply is met by the demand, the more the actual person, human being becomes less useful for such tasks. Ever since the industrial revolution this model has been honed down to the point we are in now.

Its not about the monetary gains or lack of them for the average person, it's about the wealth gap between those who gain the most from those who are supposed to move the wealth around, the middle working class.
I dont think a lot of people realized that the moment someone took Smith's idea of the ten workers making more pins then two workers would be compromised by someone simply making a machine that can do the work of 100 pin makers.

What's happening now days is just an exaggerated form of that. Lots of other nations have adapted to make the model work for their citizens. Seems like the US and a lot of other nations cant grasp the concept beyond just getting rich for themselves tho.

A nation that has done it right, is trinidad. Once a third world island is now almost a western nation because of how they used efficient technology to extract oil.
A banana republic for sure, but the wealth is distributed in different ways. They dont have a 98% literacy rat, and huge drop in crime over the last couple of years for nothing.

Bernie has had decades in Congress and the Senate to enact any changes he wanted.

What has he done?

ALMOST NOTHING.

Now he claims if he's President he'll somehow get things to change? Yeah right.

He's a do nothing bum who's had decades and done jack squat.
