Hi all,

This isn't a link to an article, but rather a nifty little site where you can simulate the effects of an asteroid impact. REALLY cool, give it a try!

That may come in handy one day
. I was kind of hoping for an animation though

Wow, this is really interesting and fun to play around with, I think I just destroyed the Earth..
. Well, indeed it might come in handy one day, and it would be alot more fun if it would show you what would happen

Major Global Changes:
The Earth is completely disrupted by the impact and its debris forms a new asteroid belt orbiting the sun between Venus and Mars.

^^^ That was my result...

I definitely wish there were graphics. I like messing with the velocity too.

Didn't destroy it, but I think I did something bad

Major Global Changes:
52.50 percent of the Earth is melted

Oops...lol

Did it again with...

Major Global Changes:
100.00 percent of the Earth is melted

Yea I deifnetly just wiped out mankind...Oh good we lost little mass...oh wait..we didn't lose it..it's just melted

Major Global Changes:
The Earth is strongly disturbed by the impact, but loses little mass.
100.00 percent of the Earth is melted
The impact does not make a noticeable change in the Earth's rotation period or the tilt of its axis.
The impact does not shift the Earth's orbit noticeably.

It said my fireball was 4562 times larger than the sun from 5000 miles away...that's big

I too just created a new asteroid belt... apparently my impact happens once in the Earth's lifetime... well I guess that's kinda implied

I like this:

Cars and trucks will be largely displaced and grossly distorted and will require rebuilding before use. ROFLMFAO

Hmm... Go here, go to the Reference section and look for this same very thing. It's been noted on ATS before.
