In the long run its likely a good thing especially on goods we can't or don't manufacturer domestically. Spread out the business with multiple countries forward-thinking companies and individuals have already begun doing this. In my lifetime in my industry, we have gone from domestic goods to a mixture of Mexican, India, and Chinese, to almost solely Chinese back to spreading out again and to new areas. Companies are investing in towns and building factories and training local workers. All of this will hopefully lead to a better product at lower prices. It was always a dream of my father's (RIP) to get more companies to produce garments domestically, some of the smaller firms do.

Now how stupid does the elites feel now? knowing everything is produced in China

Perhaps China planned it all along

Perhaps it wasn't China who planned it.

I'm remembering a world when we did not get the bulk of our goods from China, and from
what I remember the world was a better place.

I personally would spend more to buy American made products. It's not to say that I don't want anything from China, or India, or Hong Kong (for the youngins' there was a time when it seemed everything was made in Hong Kong or Taiwan)
I just don't think that every spoon, or shoe or piece of clothing should be made there. We need to seriously reel some of this stuff back in, with Food being #1. No processing or growing our food outside of the US.

I was dismayed to hear this morning that many U.S. pharmaceutical companies use ingredients made in China. The FDA even inspects the Chinese facilities where they’re made. This apparently includes antibiotics sold here.

Personally, I won’t eat anything from China and I sure as hell don’t want to take drugs that have anything to do with China. I wonder if any of the Rx drugs and supplements I take have Chinese ingredients, or are made entirely in the land where counterfeiting is common?

While I wouldn’t wish anything like the coronavirus on any nation or ethnic group, I hope something good comes of this, like U.S. firms realizing China is a bad place to do business and manufacture their products.

I make a fairly concerted effort to buy things not made in China. To be honest, it is almost impossible as so many everyday items are manufactured there.

I don't mind paying more for US made goods. The biggest issue imho is that most of the consumer public does not recognize how low prices force companies to seek lower cost of manufacturing. As consumers, we can't talk out of both sides of our mouths. You can't on one hand complain about jobs being sent overseas, yet at the same time not support companies (pay higher prices) who make an effort to keep those jobs local.

Too many people in the US are using WAY too many pharmaceuticals. Some of which can not easily/or safely just be stopped.

Itchy eye, there's a pill, hot spot on your shoulder, there's a pill.. etc... If you have a serious disease I get that, but how many people just need to lose weight or make healthy choices and get off all medication?

I went to the drs office and he laughed for five minutes because he could not fathom that I was not on a single prescription pill. I guess that is unbelievable rare for my age and sex.

It just occurred to me that this could be a deliberate bio weapon designed for both depopulation and to interfere with Trump’s efforts. Two birds-1 stone.

Manufacturing will not be returning to the US until, and unless, “capitalism” (by which I mean the interests and profits of the wealthiest versus the needs of the common citizens) is replaced by conscience.

Which is to say; Never.

As long as corporations can find a less expensive source for their products outside the US, their shareholders will demand that nothing is ever “Made In the USA”, again.
Oh riiiiight... because there’s more conscience in China ....

In this context, you might define “conscience” as concern for one’s fellow citizens: “patriotism” without the jingoistic overtones.

So, in this sense, Yes, there is more conscience among the Chinese people. Has been for centuries.

It just occurred to you? It occurred to me when I first heard about it. I was 90% sure it was a bio weapon when I heard there was a level 4 bio lab at the epicenter of this "flu". I still hold a firm belief that this was either accidentally released or released on purpose. I don't think it just jumped species as they say..

It may be we are getting ready for the mother of all financial corrections and someone said "we need to suppress the population because this correction will make the great depression look like a cake walk." Of course that is my ATS tinfoil hat theory and I have zero evidence. The piper must be paid at some point. We may be there?

Next payday I am stocking up on more canned goods, vitamin C, and other survival supplies. Doom porn is a motivator. Of course my sisters say I am nuts every time I send a warning across the bow. If they don't prepare and come knocking when the SHTF, they know they will be foot washers in my compound.

USA needs to be more self sufficient in nearly all aspects of production. Companies outsourcing nearly everything to save a few bucks is one pandemic away from total supply chain loss.

How long will it take to rebuild the manufacturing infrastructure. Have you wondered why even Harley-Davidson built a new plant in Thailand? And Chevy parts are made in Mexico. And the US military buys electronics made China.

It's capitalism, profit for the shareholders; how do you turn that trend around?

Should the government take over control of manufacturing and distribution and tell American corps. when, where and how to run their business...like in China.

We wont be making much of anything here once it spreads across the US. As far as Im concerned, we are right behind them waiting for this to hit. Were I work, all employees punch in with their fingerprint, then out at the end of shift. I warned them 2 years ago that was going to spread germs and virus. Many of the guys got real sick last month. Im getting ready to start carrying disinfectant with me. There is one reported wuflu case just blocks from here, so I presume there are more.

I think the market will take a bad dump, and we may start shutting down schools stores, and businesses sooner then later.
The President better be paying close attention to this mess

Companies are mostly very clueless about this. A few years back, half a dozen technicians got the flu from ONE contractor who came to our facility to work on equipment. He came to work for us for 3 days or so, after spending two weeks bedridden with the flu and only told us he had been ill on the day he was finishing up. I worked directly with the guy sharing keyboards and such, and ended up coming down with a case of the flu so severe I thought I was going to die. We ended up putting up hand sanitizer stations in the hallways at my behest as a result. But its only moderate protection. Then factor in people coming into work sick, and infecting coworkers because they never bother telling them they are contagious at all. It should literally be LAW that if you are sick with an infectious disease, you should be required to stay home until you are no longer contagious. Its in companies best interest to do this and I don't know why they don't make at least an effort to push that policy. I had a minor stroke in January, have been at home for 5 weeks, now recovered and going back to work next week, and am very apprehensive about it for exactly this reason. If you are working in a building full of people, its very difficult to avoid exposure.

Good news coming out of DC!!!

I don't think we have anything to worry about. Our stable genius president is on top of it. May even appoint a coronavirus "czar"

We are 6-8 weeks away from a world of pain.
Medical shortages. Picture needing heart pills and their being none...
Just tip of iceberg.

I was at a warehouse owned by a friend . He is an importer. He deals with China extensively. He has 4 weeks of stock left on sone things and he is under contract to supply for years. He has been scrambling to move production on products for 5 weeks. He started early. It will happen but it will take time.

I know 5 more people pulling out of china. I am talking about billions in production moving anywhere it can accommodate the need as fast as possible...

This is the death of china as it was for a long time. They are about to lose at least 40% of their economy. We will have shortages of stuff for awhile.

I just hope that some of this crap comes home, the production that is and they keep their plague.

I am not even sure we could fight a war against China, without the stuff they manufacture.

Puts us in a pretty bad place.
