if its gonna go, I would prefer sooner rather than later... wife has to fly back to Oklahoma in march and April for the military.

I would much rather it get shut down than her go and possibly get stuck, or worse catch the bug.

Wouldn't the cdc already have many types of plans in place for pandemics?

I agree with all you have written. This virus is out in the wider world now & I guess it's now down to the way it is managed or even if it can be managed. Personally I'm far from convinced repatriation of citizens of any nation has been the right idea, in fact I would go as far as saying it is negligent to do so. This practice just potentially spreads an "unknown outcome" infection to every developed Nation regardless of how those citizens are dealt with once they arrive in their home country.
I understand that may sound cold but emotions have to be put aside when you deal with a potential Pandemic.

my WAG would be different plans for different bugs...

Nature vs engineered, virus vs bacteria, airborne vs fluid transmission etc..

But I am an airplane mechanic and future IT guy so... yea what do I know.

The words were actually
"could" , "as if" , "may" , etc.

Why does the media overlook what is actually said and instead run with a "glorified" headline ?
(for the clicks , of course)

The CDC is doing their job as they have in every single "pandemic" over the years.

I suppose the CDC doesn't want panic so they probably won't announce any pandemic unless it's already here and their statement wouldn't change anything.

A supply chain shut down and potential panics are a big deal. I expect governments to try to avoid panicking people. Panic won't help. Buying a few extra supplies if you need them will help unless too many do the same. I was hoping the economy will stay good but it will likely take a hit as this virus spreads and people avoid going out to eat and stay home whenever that starts happening. It's not yet in the US as far as I can see.

It's ironic people don't trust the CDC to tell them the truth about possible pandemics but swallow everything they tell them about vaccines.

So..... let's tally. How many here believe what the CDC says about vaccine safety but are currently in doubt they're being told "the whole story" regarding Kung Flu?

The American public has already been told there is little to fear. Only low risk to the American public. Has the CDC changed their story? I'm not saying there is little to fear. I'm just repeating what I've heard from main stream news sources. I'm not questioning the CDC either. I'm just trying to get the facts straight. I've read the CDC is making plans for possible pandemic but the US military makes all kinds of plans as well for stuff that never happens.

So is somone saying the odds of pandemic in the US are 50/50 or higher? I don't usually pay much attention to what the CDC says because I'm too busy working as is half the public. I'm just trying to find out. Oh well. I have things to do. Good luck everyone.

I did a quick search. The WHO might be reluctant to declare a pandemic after the last time they did.

Feel free to walk the streets of Wuhan and let us know how that turns out.

Besides its not the CDC that pushes the vaccines, youre making statments but arent even getting your organizations right

All contagions are engineered. Just like the human.

If,as I have read-some people who recover are getting the virus again(potentially it hasn't left their system even though they recover)then what does that make the incubation period?
Does that mean the same person can go on infecting others over and over, even after they recover?
I hope not, that seems very serious and not like a "normal" bug.

The incubation period is for life.

The comments here read like a bad game of telephone.

It’s obvious everyone is concerned and nobody has any factual information to provide. But lots of opinions and warnings!

This is the whole point of the CDC and the reason it was created over seventy years ago.

Officials saying “be prepared” is not the same as them saying it is imminent.

I've added two teaspoons of food grade hydrogen peroxide (3%) to a gallon of water and used it as drinking water for years.

It helps inactivate viruses and oxygenates you.

I haven't had a cold or flu for a decade.

Wouldn't suggest slugging down a liter of it, but in moderation I've found it helpful for dodging the annual flu and it seems to be great for my skin.

food grade hydrogen peroxide is NOT 3%.

It pretty much is imminent at this point. Only a few countries are taking this seriously enough at this point (Singapore, SK and Italy). When a virus is introduced into a psychiatric ward, and almost everyone catches it (99 out of 102 I believe), it is ludicrously easy to catch. I'd say this will probably be labeled a pandemic by Wed or so of next week. Will anything change? Probably not much honestly, until it starts spreading like wildfire - and then it will be too late. It will be one nasty flu-like year.. but twice as easy to catch and 20 times more fatal.

Why would you implement a "gag order" if you're being honest and upfront with the American people about this virus? There is some serious covering up going on in order to hide the truth. I don't trust the information that's being told to us.

It's pretty much standard operating procedure for every health agency in the country that people that are not designated Public Information Officers or otherwise appointed do not speak to the press. This Isn’t new. All it takes is one buffoon that doesn't know what they're talking about to spread false information. Then you have whatever BS nonsense some rando said spreading. You have to be very careful talking to the press.

I've already seen some idiot saying to spray a peroxide solution through an inhaler and drink peroxide. Also have seen colloidal silver will cure it. This is the type of # the gets people killed.

ETA: Don't get me wrong. I don't believe the numbers either, but there's not some hidden agenda. They don't really know the numbers.

Agreed.

If memory serves, the same type of freak out occurred over Swine Flu/H1N1 and Ebola. Yet it appears we survived that. I personally had H1N1 and it was the flu - not unlike any other flu I’ve had in the course of my life.

I’m not a rare disease specialist, but I do suspect we’ll survive this too... a lot of this is being done out of an abundance of caution IMO.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I would say the CDC definitely pushes vaccines. Check out their main flu page. The very first thing you see is an image asking to join the fight against the flu and everyone over 6 months should get the vaccine every year. The estimates they toss out for flu deaths are consistently higher than other peer reviewed studies have suggested. How much higher? Their mortality rate estimate is ~0.1-0.2% while the Lancet placed it at between 0.001 and 0.01% or less than 5,000 deaths a year in the US in 2009 when they had the most lab confirmed deaths. The reason for such a massive difference is because models use different multipliers to account for underreporting (usually between 3-10x, for actual total infections 100x+) and also the CDC combines pneumonia and influenza while others attribute at least some pneumonia deaths to other causes. Everything I've seen leads me to assume the number of CONFIRMED flu deaths in the United States is something around 1000 most years before we fudge/fix the numbers for underreporting. Does that mean I think only 1000 deaths a year are caused by the flu in the US? No even I admit that is has to be higher but just how much more is very debatable. China reported 800 flu deaths in 2009 which was their record in the last 40 years or so while this Coronavirus is now about 2,500.

I have been watching Dr John Campbell's daily updates on Covid-19. He is very calming, easy to listen to and very thorough. His expertise, knowledge and focus on this virus is very informative.

Dr. John Campbell is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing studies at the University of Cumbria. He has been a clinical nurse and a nurse tutor for over 30 years. In addition to writing books, he has also produced a range of videos and podcasts on various health and nursing related topics. As well as selling his materials in the Western countries, many are distributed at no cost, or low cost, to students in poorer countries.
