Heh, I heard something about that on the radio a few days ago. I surprised our society hasn't built anything like that yet, if you know what I mean.... Stupid modern society... I'd rather believe it's to study astronomy or something... heh... heh...

I also read about this being compared to a woman's....well, I won't say.

But what I will add is this: when I was doing some studying of Hindu, I was quite perplexed to note that G-d is related to the woman's...same thing as Stonehenge.
It was explained, in a simple way, that G-d is seen as the beginning of Life and in such is symbolically connected to the woman's 'thing'.

So, your telling me that after thousands of years in mystery, its nothing but a Druid's way of looking at porn.
All those secret meetings were to worship a vagina.
Man, preists.

I read this in a book years ago - as the sun rises over the entranceway, it casts a shadow (from a stone) that lengthens in the direction of the gateway/opening, almost like a.................

Stonehenge is a massive female fertility symbol

Freud would probably say that the druids' religion was an elaborate defense mechanism [sublimation] by which they could discharge their sexual energies. Who knows, really.

And as for this guy's theory... well projection is more probable when it comes to high IQ folks

I think cnn is trying to be sock news in order to get better ratings since fox is stomping them in the market.

Regardless of the real motivation, its stupid. It isn't even news. At least to me, anyway, everytime an idiot says something idiotic isn't what the press is for.

You need to rember that Druids are about nature. It makes sense that would create a monument that resembled woman. My guess is it could have been used for a fertility rites. A place to go and worship/pray for their crops and for the birth of children. Most of the time the earth is referred to as the "mother". She gives birth to life. So this could be an accurate account.

*Sigh* So disappointing. But it makes perfect sense. In the times the structure was built, I'm sure there was a great need for reproduction. Perhaps even a famine. Darwin and Religion meet again. If nature doesn't allow you to evolve so that you may reproduce... beg the Gods with rocks.
Survival of the fittest...or the righteous.

It's an interesting theory but I still vote for the Stonehenge is some sort of astrological map/sky chart.

The druids may have performed some of their rituals and celebrations at Stonehenge but they didn't build it.

So what is everyones theory on who did build it? Little men in space ships? I don't buy that theory either.

It's none too surprising that fertility symbols might have been regarded as enormously important: the Greeks and Romans had Priapus all over the place and in Hindu (and to a much lesser degree Buddhist) architecture as "lingam" and "yoni" -male and female pudenda respectively -they're all over the place as embarrassed Western tourists often discover when they do the temple tours.
However, in the case of this particular "researcher it is plain taht his head's not right.
Quite simply, it is pretty well accepted that Stonehenge represents many hundreds of years' additions and developments. Whatever it was, or how it was used, must have changed many many times and it was begun long before there were any druids. One imagines the druids came to it as an ancient mystery and used it to suit their own rituals.
In short, it is most unlikely that anyone "built" Stonehenge -as we have it and know it -for any one specific purpose, although the astronomical purpose seems to be a pretty reasonable part-explanation.

Stonehenge was built several times. I to think it may have something to do with the stars. I think there was more than 1 purpose intended for the site. It was an awful lot of work,to create a one dimensional site. And it could have meant many differant things over the years.
