Researchers in the Netherlands have developed an incredibly accurate nanosensor which can detect metastatic cancer cells from just a single drop of blood

Their ‘lab on a chip’ can detect individual nanoparticles – and could soon provide a quick and convenient method for healthcare professionals the world over to test for certain diseases in an incredibly non-invasive way.

This is pretty exciting. Researchers have developed a nanosensor that can detect cancer from just a single drop of blood. Not only that, but this nanosensor should theoretically also be able to detect various other diseases. I'd be shocked if this nanosensor was not a commonplace testing method throughout the healthcare industry in 10-20 years. Hopefully it is relatively easy to create and not prohibitively expensive.

Not needed. Everyone has some form of cancer. What they don't know is if it will kill them.

Can not speak for anyone else, but for me:

I have read about these cells and how they help cancer spread. This applies mostly to the cancers where as an example, lung issue is growing in the liver, or liver tissue is growing in the pancreas and stuff like that. It becomes cancer instead of tumor when it has rapid growth. Which is because a growth hormone by the tumor cells is more active or normal aptopsis is not happening as it should.

I wonder if this would work on kids during their growth spurt, stuff is moving all over the body during that spurt. Fat cells ca nturn into stem cells and are used to promote growth of everything in the body. It appears this test picks up some sort of envelope it travels in caused by tumors. I suppose the test will include instructions as to how to apply it which some doctors will not have the training or comprehension as how to evaluate correctly. It should require a specialist to evaluate with a description of where the blood came from which includes age, sex, and maybe if there has been a recent jump in growth. I know some other tests that might help to clarify whether it is pertinent or not. Certain results in a blood test that can show a growth spurt is happening or going to happen shortly. I know this from researching my grandson's blood work, the daughter was thinking he was sick, but if you look up reasons that the result could be elevated one is a growth spurt.

I don't know what was happening with that, I am not even sure it was an intentional scam. It may have been that it was far from accurate but worked on some people. I read about that a while back. I question if this test in the OP will have too many false positives or miss things. Theranos actually overstated the efficiency of their product if I remember right, maybe they have actually worked out bugs with this one based on what Theranos blood tests were looking for.

I do not know if this will actually work. It actually looks for tumors, not necessarily cancer from what I read on the link.

I for one would welcome any type of early detection of cancer. I have known more people who have woke up with stage four cancer with no symptoms, look at Rush stage four lung cancer. Why can't they find this when you visit your doctor and they take that blood sample?

My wife was diagnosed with stage III triple negative breast cancer. I asked the oncologist the same question. We take blood panels once a year. He said there was no blood test that could detect cancer and the only way my wife knew was she had some pain and went and had a mammogram. He said unless you have symptoms there isn't any test beside xray, ct or mri and such. I would hope this new test would catch it before it metastasized. Once it's in your blood it's late stage from what I understand. My uncle started coughing up blood one day and went to the doctor that same week to find out he had stage IV lung cancer, unfortunately it was too late and he passed soon after. No symptoms up until that day, crazy.
