What I like about Ray Charle's version is the woman gives the money to the man:

In the modern day version, it's the other way around:

Which one do you think is better? I'm going with second one because of the lyric, "And on her 18th birthday, he found out it wasn't his"

They're probably in the same key. I always think of songs that would go perfect together but can't think of any now lol they come randomly and then leave

They are sampling Ray Charles from the first song in the second song. This invokes the feel of the first song even with a very different lyrical style and composition.

As far as which is better, I would think that is a personal opinion with no right or wrong answer.

The original is always the right answer.

While I agree with your sentiment. Joan Jett holds the Iconic version of I love Rock 'N" Roll over the Arrows.
Disturbed did an outstanding cover of "Sound of Silence," that at least rivals the original.
Johnny Cash's "Hurt" is as if not more moving that NIN.
Post Modern Jukebox has a number of covers which at least rival their source material, in my opinion.
Which leads me back to my statement of there is no right or wrong answer.

You're not tricking me into pushing play on a Kanye video. Nope.

Interesting post- but I’ve always gone with the mainstay of these two songs that are really about the same thing, but with very different meanings;

“It’s raining men” by The Weather Girls and “Let the bodies hit the floor” by Drowning Pool
