It was common sense. Schiff didn't recognize it, so he called in the hazmat crew.

Has anyone ever looked at Schiff's pupil size? His personality kind of remind me of the actions of someone on Coke. I have known many coke users over the years, and his personality does seem to match. It could also be something like a medicine like Modifinil which can cause some delusional thinking if not used to treat a disease it is prescribed for. Medicines should not be used unless you actually have a condition that requires them or they can have some negative cognitive effects. Modifinil would make it so he could give a good speach, but it also would make a person believe what they are saying is real even though it is not.

I know this from researching it and also from having it prescribed to me to counteract some of the bad effects of the anti-epileptic meds.

Well, this could take a while. Running the tests to see if the substance is the remains of his ethics, his honor, his moral integrity, etc. Could be evidence of several of his missing character traits.

Coke is used medically. When I worked security in the hospital I had to escort it when it was being dispensed from the pharmacy. It is kept in liquid form and primarily used to stop severe nosebleeds. Which doesn’t make sense at first, but does when you think about it for a minute on how it constricts capillaries and will eventually cause a hole in the nose’s septum over years of abuse.

Politico's reporting made it sound like the substance was found on the floor in the hallway outside of Schiff's office and they shut off the hallway. It could be anything.
