The Canadian is interesting. Given the international politics, I could see it being a sort of backdoor compromise for both the US and China.

China has lots of close trade ties with Canada. They use Canada as a sort of "goods laundering" country for their trade goods. That has been a source of friction between the US and Canada in the recent past as the Trump admin has been less sympatico to that arrangement. And I have no reason to think the present Trudeau admin in Canada sees any need to rock the boat in its relations with China.

At the same time, the US does mostly try to make nice with our northern neighbors for the most part. We love their pretend bacon/ham and hockey! Really ...

So I could see this WHO expert being deemed and acceptable compromise to head up the team. The question is how serious he is to really find out what's going on and which set of interests he's more interested in serving.

Good news for America, there is still one manufacturer there that makes the N95 mask.

Bad news, all pharmaceuticals come from China these days with about a two months supply in stock.

Here in Australia I expect a similar situation. With Industry and trade shutting down in China, they are already short on masks. As for what is going to happen on the medicine front is speculation at this time. In the current situation this is a risk of shortages into the future.
