You are being disingenuous in the extreme here. These patients would be similarly at risk from the freakin' flu and you know it.

Ahh, so ALL those with pre existing issues are at the same risk from normal flu? And yet the WHO are saying this is a grave threat - glad you know more than they (you probably do incidentally). In addition this virus being novel would put these people at much greater risk as they will have no immunity to it, which they may well have for more normal strains of flu. This is, potentially, a huge issue for many many millions and some here seem to want to make light of it. Utterly ridiculous in my opinion - but it is only my opinion.

Incidentally, London now has its first confirmed case. I wonder if they used the tube? If they did, not good at all.

I can't help your mind being in the gutter. I also can't help it if you think of this as one monolithic single event.

Each city has its own outbreak taking place. Wuhan is the first one. It is furthest along and will be done soonest.

Subsequent locations are behind Wuhan because their outbreaks happened after.

Some places will undergo the entire process quicker because they have smaller populations, less people who will get ill before they are done.

And China will be done and trying to put itself together while other places could be deeply suffering the worst and still others possibly not even begun.

I don't think anyone is making light of it, but we have yet to see China's situation begin to unfold elsewhere.

CDC says there are "suspected cases" in 41 states. Not sure if that was news to anyone but it was to me (previously I've just been looking at MapHub to see suspected cases but this resource is obviously not including a LOT of states with suspected cases)

I know those are just suspected cases and it's flu season, but guarantee out of those 41 states and 60 pending results for suspected cases the number of confirmed cases will be going up, even if only slightly (I hope it's only a minor increase)

Well, good news and bad news about this case. I hear she only arrived in the UK (Heathrow?) a couple of days ago. Felt ill, called 111.

Bad news, this wasn't picked up on her arrival at the airport before travelling on. Good news is it might have taken a couple of days to get that test confirmed, so she has probably been in isolation very soon after landing. Still, if she was contagious, just making her way home from airport may have been plenty to cause unstoppable spread.

Scout master infects 11+ people by himself.

People on diamond princess - 50% ish of people tested so far have it.

If it wasn't contageous it wouldn't be spreading.

And before you say it - you don't get 1 person on a ship with athletes foor, and 2 weeks later 200 people have it too.

It's clearly highly communicable, the only question is how deadly is it?

And that, really, is my point. Just because we haven’t, doesn’t mean we won’t. It is ridiculous to play this down as some here are doing. There are a number making light of it, probably for lol’s, but even so. We are not doomed, this isn’t doom porn, it’s a very real situation impacting very many people.

Personally I hope it does burn out and does prove to be far less deadly outside of China. However that would leave me wanting to know WHY it appears, currently, to be far worse in China. I really don’t buy the air pollution thing, bad as it is or any of the other environmental drivers postulated.

However it is too soon, at least for me, to go down that rabbit hole. I think this has a long way to play out yet with more odd twists and turns.

I think it’s quite possible, apparently the super spreader arrived back via Gatwick so again plenty there to spread to

The boat would be a good place to get info which could be scaled up to garner more relevant figures to predict from

I’m pretty sure that is what they are doing. Quite callous really, as they are allowing the infection to spread. Great lab experiment, the Nazi’s would have been proud.

Not sure on the last bit 😬🤦🏽‍♂️, but once removed then... nothing ?, no more updates as there into quarantine like all the others ( oh except the U.K. super spreader who’s fully recovered and back at home in a few days , meanwhile all the folks at brairs Norton are still in quarantine ????)
