At the heart of the matter is the question "Is there a legitimate basis for requesting an investigation of Hunter and Joe Biden's behavior in Ukraine?".
The majority of reasonable people, no matter how they feel about the President, are able to see that the whole Biden/Ukraine escapade looks shady as hell. Keep in mind, to believe there is a legitimate basis, all that is required as that an APPEARANCE of impropriety exist. That's it.
If this legitimate basis can be shown, and I think the defense team did a great job of doing exactly that (you should watch it), it is almost impossible to prove that it was done solely for political gain.

Let's say, in the heat of an election campaign, the President hears from a foreign diplomat that the campaign from the opposing party is coordinating with...Russia. He knows that if it comes out it could benefit him and his party greatly. He also thinks that, with legitimate basis, it would be in the nation's interest to investigate what could possibly be going on. He decides to investigate. Should that President be impeached?

if he clearly violates the constitution by doing so, yes. i don't know your constitution. actually, constitutions are made for just such cases. the trial against trump is about something fundamental. he lies and lies. if the leader of a group is always lying, where will he lead the group to? into chaos. into nothing. he spreads fake news as if he were a second alex jones, that alone would be enough in germany to get a politician fired directly. trump abuses his office. that's what it's all about. but if you can't or won't prove it to him, he remains unpunished and can continue to cause trouble.

Actually no... nothing you said is what the trial is about.

That ignorant rambling mess clarified every post I've seen from you about politics since you joined. You have absolutely no idea what is happening. That explains it all.

Democrats signaled in the runup to the looming conclusion of President Trump's impeachment proceedings that they'll simply refuse to accept his all-but-certain acquittal because his "sham" trial lacked proper witnesses and evidence.

Signaling how they will message the saga in the coming months on the campaign trail, top Democratic leaders in the House and Senate argued Trump can never erase the stain of impeachment because the trial wasn’t legitimate.

Schumer is trying to show just how stupid he really is. Pelosi won't accept an acquittal. Yet, they didn't call these witnesses when they were doing the house investigation. This is crazy town. It's like the left projects it's feelings on others only to have to accept their feelings in the end.

I wonder if someone will point out to them that they rushed the impeachment and did a poor job with it.

The house with a majority impeached. It's what they wanted to do. They have the power to do just that. The Senate has the power to try to impeachment. They don't have to listen to anyone else but the constitution, and they did. All the tears, and all the anger won't change those facts. So while impeachment is forever, so it Acquittal.

The Democrats know the fake impeachment was illegitimate...The Republicans shut them down at every turn during the House investigations and it didn't matter...They just ignored the Republicans and pretended they didn't hear them...

And then lie after lie after lie...They know exactly what they did...

They didn't try to win...They knew they couldn't...They played to the media hacks who in turn would disseminate the talking points out to the public while at the same time ignoring any evidence put out by the Republicans...

Every time they pull this crap, they makes themselves look like even bigger fools than they did from their last shameless charade.

Their denial is a sight to behold. I bet Nancy is praying for Trump tonight, praying he'll meet an untimely death.

I still cant believe trump was impeached over hearsay and a secret whistleblower. Just dont seem right.

He wasn't. Even some Republicans admit he is guilty as charged but don't think it worthy of being removed from office. They do need to write notes justifying their votes which will be part of the record. a good majority of the notes will say the same, Guilty, but not worthy of being removed from office. You all know if the tables were flipped you would be screaming bloody murder.

Plus the whole Biden thing is pretty easily disproved when looked at through the eyes of the Uk investigation going on at that time into Burisma which Shokin blocked from obtaining evidence while shutting down his own investigation.

That ain't lemonade you all are drinking.

No, if the tables were turned, the president would have been scolded, and we would have moved on. I don't believe republicans would be as ignorant about impeachment, they learned a while ago.

I was willing to have an open mind when the impeachment started and listen to the facts. The truth is even if Trump was guilty (and I don't believe he was) the democrats botched their presentation so terribly it got lost in that noise. The impression they gave me consistently is that this whole thing was a partisan effort to remove him so he couldn't beat the pants off them in the next election. They can go ahead and keep doing this, the end result is they are going to face a serious defeat in the next election. I was a registered democrat most of my life, I have switched to independent and there is NO way I will vote for any member of this current democratic party probably for the rest of my life. THAT is the only thing the have accomplished, to alienate millions of voters like myself.

they had Clinton lying under oath and he didnt get removed, this "impeachment" effort was dead before it started, maybe if they did an actual investigation and got actual evidence of wrong doing there might have been some doubt, but this train wreck no.

Angry rant. Negative star! That Constitution has worked pretty well the past 200 years. If you are so smart and want to change it. Go ahead. But I do not think you are that smart. A lot of brave men fought for this country’s freedom and set up future generations for a chance to succeed. If you want something better, go ahead and do it smarty pants. It may cost you everything , even your life. But I would wager everything I have that your cowardly ass would just stay behind your laptop saying dumb #. God bless America. The democrats have proven time and time again that they ONLY accept things when they get 100% of what they want.

They are like spoiled children. If they don't get 100% of their way 100% of the time, they throw temper tantrums.

Just look at how liberals are acting on social media today. The REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE is as loud as ever

I consider myself to be an old school conservative, but the impeachment does not sit well with me. I was expecting something more like a traditional legal trial with discovery and witnesses, and cross.

Regardless of what I think about Trump, or whether I think that he is innocent or not, it really does not feel right to do it like this. It feels like a whitewash, and I am sure that history will see it as one, and that the liberals will simply refuse to accept the verdict.

More than this, without things like witnesses and cross I don't think that other countries will accept this trial as being valid.

It's not enough for Trump to win, he has to be seen to win and accepted to win.

We've all grown up watching show like Law and Order, and we respect the legal process, and while some liberals will absolutely refuse to accept a not guilty verdicts many more of them would accept the verdict if the process was done in the same way as it would if a regular person were on trial.

That might be true for the outrage mob on twitter, but most of the liberals that I personally know would grudgingly accept the verdict if they felt that the trial had been conducted in a fair and open manner.

They wouldn't like it, and they most certainly would complain about it, but they would accept it.

The problem is that this trial just doesn't feel right. It feels like a white wash. No witnesses, no cross, the defendant being allowed to refuse to hand over evidence and refuse to grant access to certain people.

We'd never in a million years accept it if Obama were to do the same, in fact we'd never accept it in a regular court case.

Imagine if a Democratic senator were allowed to do this after being accused of corruption?

Why the hell should we care if other countries accept the trial?

And besides.. the democrats called witnesses during the investigation phase... they locked the republicans out. Then they went around telling everyone they had an "air tight" case.... and NOW they need more evidence???

The Democrats should be ok with this or even more of their hypocrisy will show.
Didn't they vote for a mayor who ACTUALLY broke laws and then said
" GOD DAMN BITCH SET ME UP "
What was his name again? Barry they were slapped in the face with his actual crimes and still loved him for using their money.

what were your thoughts on the house impeachment? was it fair and just? Was it done in a way that you feel gave fairness to the entire process?

I see this as not a win for Trump at all, but just another instance where an attack was stopped. There have been plenty of them, with all the investigations, and charges.

As was stated by the Presidents legal team, if they were to allow witnesses, then the President's team would be justified to cross examine all the previous witnesses that they weren't allowed to talk to. And that doesn't even approach the new witnesses like Schiff, The Whistle blower, Hunter, Joe Biden, and possibly Zalilnksy, though pulling another countries leader into out dysfunction would be ignorant, even if he is a key witness. Bottom line is, witnesses would have drug this already tedious process on for months. And all for a charge that isn't an impeachable offence. Impeachment is a serious thing and should never be trivialized as it was in this case. The democrats did the nation a huge disservice.

Why are you being rude? What is the point of that besides getting stars from the Trump Cult. You know exactly what I said, you know the history of the US. You tried to be slick with you're wording and you contradicted yourself. I mentioned before it's a common and predictable trait of Trump Cultists to ignore things that are non-biased, such as the link listing countries and the date their current Constitution was created, it's not part of your agenda so you just write a weird post attempting to be condescending and judgemental.

The irony of a Trump cultists using the word flexible with the impeachment trial. 😂

Awww....did I hurt your feelz? Not sorry there gameboy.

You are so enlightened you don't even know that I didn't vote for Trump in the 2016 election. Nope, and I didn't vote for Hillary either. However, when someone attack the Constitution of the United States, and claims it is old, out of date, and essentially needs to be thrown out and rewritten, then yes, I stand up.

Get out from behind your veil of a computer and do something about it. That old document was designed to be flexible, to change with the times. And, guess what Mr.s Genius radical, it has numerous times.

You didn't answer me last time, so I'll repeat it.

How many times now? C'Mon, say it. (unless you don't even know or can count that high).

ETA: Oh, and while your brain is smoking over that big number, ask yourself why those other countries had to totally rewrite their own Constitutions (or whatever they call their equivalent document). Try to consider that their old ones were too rigid, inflexible, and did not put the power into the hands of the people to amend and change it over time. Imagine a founding document that can be updated over time, let's call them amendments, that will allow it to be flexible into the future. Wouldn't that be something to admire?

My prediction;

Dems pull some cap in next few days OR pause impeachment due to corona virus.

Trump acquitted either way.

Dem meltdown as usual ( can we make beer from the tears? )

Meanwhile Bernie wins nomination

DNC adjusts rules forcing a brokered convention, pick Biden

Bernie and AOC defect from DNC, quite possibly an internal DNC civil war occurs with violence, maybe run as Socialists in general election

Biden pick Warren as VP running mate.

Trump crushes Biden in election.

Dems lose it, go full Antifa

Civil War 2 ala John Mack’s great videos on YouTube.

Patriots win!

If a civil war broke out in this country between the left and the right, it will be a HIGHLY entertaining half hour.

One side has over 300,000,000 guns and well over a trillion rounds of ammunition... the other side needs safe spaces and doesn't know which bathroom to use.
