Skin whitening is apparently becoming a thing in parts of Africa, Asia and the United States. It appears to be a prevalent phenomenon amongst black people and East Asian people. This is a concern.
In what ways can society/the world discourage this phenomenon of skin whitening?
Yes, humans are free but interested in your take on this matter nonetheless..

It is self hate. It is a little more nuanced than comparing to white folks tanning.

The mental gymnastics people play to cry victim is astounding
Dark skin people lightening skin = tragic and the result of years of oppression
Light skin people wanting to darken their skin = no problem at all

Try educating yourself. Seriously, Google brown paper bag test and learn about the history of colorism within the black community.
Skin bleaching is far more insidious than trying to get a tan. Yes, I'm sure some white folks tried to be as pasty white as possible but it simply is not a direct comparison nor does it have the same cultural baggage.
