yeah this sound alot like somthing went horribly wrong in matter of secondes with the fog they where out of luck

That's why I think that they had a boom strike. The pilot got disoriented, saw something and made a severe control input that caused the main rotor to hit the aircraft fuselage. It damaged one or more of the blades and the stress from the change in pitch caused failure of the main rotor.
