Funny. Because what you consider far left is center right in the rest of the world. But, moving on

Because I am living in the United States not the rest of the world so what they think really doesn't matter.

Though the funny thing, even though I was never a member of either party, I always more closely aligned with the blue dog democrats before they went extinct. Compared to the '90s the democrats of today with free free free being their platform they are pretty fricking far into left field.

I was never a Democrat. Was more into Libertarian things. I was bamboozled (I feel) into supporting all of the US misadventures in the middle east.

I personally was drawn to Trump by the FACT that both "powerful" people in the Democrat party and the Republican party hated him. It could all be a trick, but so far judging by Trumps policies and behaviors, it doesn't seem that it is and I am therefore looking forward to voting for him again in 2020.

He hasn't drained the swamp as fast as I would like, but at least he is doing something, which is 1000 times more than any Democrat or any other Republican has done since I have been actually paying attention to national politics - since about 1987.

We want free

These 3 words define the democrat party.

NOTHING in life is free.

It is free if you don't have to pay for it. However there are people out there breaking their backs so people can have free. And anyone that wants free government run healthcare isn't right in the head.

On what planet is this? Please elaborate.

You are correct to challenge AgarthaSeed.

Europe IS left of the US and more liberal.

BUT he is ignoring all the middle eastern countries who are far far right of the US

He is ignoring the many Islamic countries around the world who are far far right of the US.

He is ignoring Australia which is about where the US is. evenly divided between left and right.

If the "rest of the world" were European and caucasion I suppose he would be right. But there are lots more people in the world than that.

You were right to challenge this sort of eurocentric thinking.

No. We want free and affordable healthcare that works.

You'll get "free" healthcare that isn't worth a damn, "affordable" healthcare that is slightly better, or you'll get healthcare that works and costs you money. My insurance runs me $250 a month, after my employer covers some of that cost. Max out of pocket per year is $1500, which is exactly what I paid for my wife's back surgery that without insurance would have cost around $180k give or take. It's worked just fine for me, covers every bit of healthcare needs I have and is affordable.

Now if you have sweeping ideas on how we can bring those costs down, without government intervention, I'm all ears. Nothing the government touches is worth a damn even in the medium term, just look at Social Security for an example there.

I go to the VA for my health care.

As a retired EMT i rate it a lot better then my local hospital that only has a basic ER rating and the only other ER with a higher rating is over 80 mile away.

I had a 5 way bypass done by a top doctor from UCLA medical hospital that teaches at the VA hospital.

The VA hospital system is not the same as it was 30 years ago,

Its now the best teaching hospital system in the US.

The first thing the democrats will do if the get a Medicare for all system is try to close the VA health care system as unneeded.

I was once a Democrat and I was once a Republican. Now I am neither.

I have no hope left in me for our government. I now understand what the old folks meant when I was a kid and they used to tell us, "Don't trust the government."

Remember though, during that time we had no free health care. There was no insurance, and most people only went to the hospital for a serious emergency, if then. People didn't even go to hospital to die back then. Doctors came to your house, and people in the community nursed and took care of each other.

My Mother got Blue Cross and Blue Shield back when she started working for the Navy in the 60s. The rest is history.

I do not understand.

My union dues pay for a fantastic health plan, retirement, compensation to my family if disabled on the job and fair wage for a skilled craftsman with collective bargaining, job security and training. I don't resent paying my union dues.

I have seen a great decline in the VA in the area were I live. Between 2006 to 2012, I would have said the VA was the best medical care system in the area. It has been slowly dying ever since because of CMS.

CMS is destroying all healthcare and is making doctors mercenaries.

I voted for Obama — twice. But I had already decided to vote Republican shortly after the Ferguson, MO insanity that saw the Obama admin, news media, social media and Left in general convict the poor police officer well before the facts were in. It wasn’t just that one incident; I was disgusted with the lack of concern about illegal immigration and the effects it was having on U.S. blue collar workers — which Democrats used to champion! I realized the party had abandoned white men like me in favor of everyone else, including foreigners in the country illegally. And when I saw Trump’s promise to build a wall and deport illegals, I instantly became a Trump supporter. He’s been far from perfect, but he seems to be trying to keep his promises despite ferocious resistance, often from Republicans. I think he could go down as one of the greatest presidents in history.

Propaganda influences people.

Let's use the internet in the US as an example:

We dont want the government to step in to regulate because "itll stifle innovation". "Compitition is good".
"The free market will decide". Etc

As a result, ISPs are monopolies and Americans pay an extreme amount of money for absolutely garbage internet.

You've people paying thousands a year for health insurance, but won't consider paying a few hundred extra a month due to "but teh lazies will benifit!!1"

You're going to give your money to strangers no matter what.

I live in NC, and work for a company based out of DC. However before moving to where I am now, my previous company was based out of NYC. My boss, who lives in Austin, pays exactly the same. It's not where you live, it's who you work for. Good health insurance coverage benefits are one of the things that I strongly consider, especially as I get older, when considering working for a company.

Why I say I used to be a Democrat is because the party has gone far far to left,

Funny. Because what you consider far left is center right in the rest of the world. But, moving on..

Another policy shift by the Dems pushing me away is there incessant bantering about needing free health care, and other "free" services. Take a look at the health care provided by the V.A. that is an example of free government health care on a small scale. And you want this for the entire country ?

No. We want free and affordable healthcare that works. No one anywhere is saying it’s going to copy the V.A. system. It’s disingenuous for you to compare the push for accessible healthcare to a system that’s been torn apart by the party you now call home.

Take a close look at socialist govvernments around the world how many of those are over whelming successes ? We fought a war for 50 years against communism aka socialism called the cold war, and now we are just going to go belly up and decide that we some how can do socialism better than the rest of the country's that have tried it . No logic , no reason, thats not the democratic party I know.

That you conflate helpful socialist policies with communism shows you have zero understanding of either. Yes, please take a look at the countries who have socialist healthcare systems. Whatever the negatives may be are a far cry from the broken system of American healthcare that is bankrupting people at an alarming rate and killing others.

I used to be a Democrat.

Yeah right. And I used to be a giraffe. You couldn’t be any more transparent if you were a new windshield.

I had the same kind of thought/s ...'s funny.

Of course you stopped reading , it's easier to just cover your eyes and ears and lalalalalala right?

That is awsome though you were an Astronaut much respect sir.

Not sure why being an Astronaut makes you an expert on climate change, our planets history of climate change is in the layers of glaciers and layers of earth studied by scientist. Granted you can see the melting polar ice caps from space but that is just a natural part of climate shift , it probably signifies the shift of our planets magnetic polarity right?

Hints why the rest of the world hates the United States. We are not the only people trying to live on this planet, and unfortunatly we cant take our foot off the throat of our enemies for even a second or they would rip our throats out.

We need space travel, we need to spread our wings through the cosmos and get off this cramped planet.

Everything you said is wishful thinking so I will not even honor it with a thoughtful response .

But I do not like being called a liar, I was a Democrat very much so. I didn't say I agreed with all there politics but there stance on Religion was enough to keep me in the blue corner for years and years.

and I didnt say look at countries with socialist healthcare , I said look at socialist governments overall. Socialism is wishful thinking , unfortunatly hoping for the best does not work because we are quite human, and human beings are individuals at heart and individuals have no place in socialism .

Socialism is not helpful to humans, it simply builds a box around each person and they are expected to live in said box.

I used to THINK I was a Democrat. Until Obamacare. The individual mandate made me completely rethink giving my support to the backstabbers who let that mandate get passed into law. And the groupthink that is endemic to partisanship did not allow dissent from within the ranks of people who voted for Democrats. Simply put - If you didn't like what they did with Obamacare, you might as well be a Republican for all they cared. There was no dissent at all that I could see on the mandate.

So that pushed me somewhat to the right for as long as Obama was in office. But I have always been an atheist and I know damn well how big religious fundamentalism is on the right (and even on the left to some degree). So conservatives were convenient allies for those years.

But of course now things have flipped upside down and we're back to being owned by people who are owned by corporations and religion. Which is also not good. They preach freedom but they practice their own brand of freedom.

And of course the Democrats had a point in that healthcare is survival and survival is a basic right. But of course they were using that point to manipulate people. They don't really intend to ever make healthcare for all an easy pill to swallow. There will ALWAYS be a nasty catch in there somewhere. Same with the Rethuglicans.

At this point, I'm just disgusted with the whole topic. I was naive and optimistic about humanity when I was younger. Now I have come to see human nature for what it is and I really wish I didn't. The harsh light of reality paints an ugly picture and there isn't anything good anywhere to be seen.

I'll just say, I was once a Republican, then Bush Sr happened, and I thought, "whoa! I was wrong! I guess I'm a Democrat!" Then Clinton, then W, then Obama and I realized...I'm neither of those...I have a functioning brain.

Both parties fully-infiltrated by anti-American trash.
