Have you ever bought someone a cool gift, thinking they’re gonna love this...hell I’d love this too?

Well it’s the wife’s and my, 9th wedding anniversary tomorrow.
I have to leave town tomorrow for 4 days for work, so we did our anniversary last night.

Yesterday, While my wife was at work, I took the kids around looking for a gift.
My wife was hinting she wanted new diamond earrings, but I bought her an expensive pair 2 years back.
So I wanted to find something else.
I was looking around all the usual places and of course looking at things I wanted.

The youngest pipes up and says, mom doesn’t have an IPad.
She’s always yelling at the laptop because it’s slow.
I thought, that’s right. Everyone else in the house has an IPad or IPad mini.
4 iPads and the wife doesn’t have one.

So it was settled.
We went to Best Buy and I asked for the newest and best IPad.
The sales kid shows me the newest IPad Pro.
The price was kinda silly, as is all Apple products, but I’ve never had an issue with their devices.
We used to get he kids Android tablets at least once a year because they would either slow down, start crashing, or just stop working altogether.
We ended up getting them all Ipad minis for Christmas a few years back and not one has had an issues yet.

The kid talked me into it and through in an extended warranty.
She’s gonna love this I thought.

There was still a couple hours until she got off work, so I let the kids wrap it and put it under the tree.

The wife gets off work and comes in the door,
I was sitting in the living room with the kids.
Then she starts milling around in the kitchen.
I wanted it to be a surprise so I said loud enough for her to hear
“Get out of the Christmas tree bad cat!”
We have a Savannah cat that has very much so taken a liking to the Christmas tree.
So I knew that would get her attention.

She came running in expecting to have to pluck a bad kitty off the top of the tree again, but instead there was a present under the tree, which she immediately noticed.

I said oh that! Happy anniversary!

She smiled and said one second I’ll get yours.
I tell her no, no, just open yours first.
I get a little kiss, the kids smiled and she kneels down and starts to unwraps it.
“No Effin way!”

Thinking I’m the best husband in the world, i said yes way. It’s for you!

She laughs and laughs and I’m thinking okay what am I missing?
She goes in the other room and hands me my gift.
Same sized box. Then I say, No effin way!
Sure enough, it’s the new IPad Pro, but in black.

We both just laughed asking what are the chances.
She said she noticed me eyeballing one about a month ago.

I was happy with my iPad mini 2, but ya, I wanted the Pro also.

It’s hard to get used to, because it’s so big...almost awkward actually.

But I thought I’d share that little story.
I was not expecting it what so ever.
My wife gets anxiety when making large purchases.
So it was the last thing I was expecting.

Anyone else ever have a surprise like that happen?

It probably happens a lot when both parties are being lazy, and less imaginative than you two. My brother's mother-in-law and I once gave bottles of sherry to each other.

It's something you're doing if your android tablets are slowing down and crashing every few years.

Apple HAS been caught doing that. Android not so much... but carry on

That’s even more crazy.
Billions of cards out there and you two pick the same one lol.

My brother and I did something similar over a decade ago.
Now it has become tradition for each to give the other a bottle of Chimay for Christmas.

most of my gift giving went pretty well this year mostly to randoms as i dont have a wife or a big family so i spoiled random people in my life

but i did have a small hiccup caused by local police that thankfully got resolved to my satisfaction ,the TLDR is i gave the manager at my local coffee shop a smith and wesson 38 cuz they had a lot of break ins lately in her neighborhood so she was moderately worried as her husband works late . her husband wanted to check the numbers (no biggie gun was legal) and the cops flipped out about thinking it MUST be stolen because no one just gives guns away so they took it until they called me before giving it back to her a day later. it was a lady smith 60 for lefty's so not exactly my kind of gun but she was thrilled and she spoils my beloved doggo with treats
