To be honest, was there ever a time when we were united?

No way so your list is moot brah. But wouldn't it be awesome if it could
happen when it's the one thing we need most? I still have that hope.
And I see that lacking in you right now for the wrong gawd damn
reasons. Whether you're right or wrong we need this more now than
we ever did in the past. Do you see that?

I never said we need to be united again

Sure, I'll "unite".

I have no problem, "uniting".

Just don't ask me to compromise.

Good man

Just don't ask me to compromise.

There is no compromise to what is righteous and I wouldn't ask
anything of you I wouldn't ask of myself first;

What the hell where are the liberals? They should be facing up to
facts. If they can't then let this be an example of trying to stop
what is inevitable. A red tide in america, a crimson reckoning.

Compromise to the usual suspects means rolling over and let a sitting president be impeached out nothing more than hate.

The current world we live in is effed with a bigger effed up.

For a people to unite there has to be respect.

Respect of laws.

Respect of ethics.

Respect for each other.

I'll be the first to admit. I have absolutely no respect for the other side, Mainly because they've done nothing to earn it.

Those caught up in the charade will never admit that they are half the problem. Democrat, Republican, it doesn't matter. It's easier to fool someone than to convince them they've been fooled. The psyop continues

This redundant opinion of yours has been read ad nauseum. And
does absolutely nothing for anyone. Just say'n and you're welcome to
post as you like. But you might want to try something different like
looking for a solution when given the opportunity to consider one. Maybe
not so negative. If not hell I don't blame you.

But you seem pretty smart so I bet you would be good at it this.

President Lyndon Johnson was probably the last of the old-school politicians. Even if he hated you personally, he was willing to listen to you and figure out what you wanted, and then negotiate with you so everybody at least got something. Politics used to involve a lot of listening and compromise.

But when he ran up against the communists in North Vietnam, he couldn't figure them out and he ultimately bowed out of the presidency because of it. Because they were fanatics, extremists and dogmatists who didn't believe there was a middle compromise position. It was their way or die, and that's not the way he did business. He knew his time was up.

For a variety of reasons -- my guess is the fear that rapid change might take things from them -- there are a lot more fanatics in the country these days. People who are so afraid that would rather see things burn than compromise. And I'm not talking specifically about Republicans or Democrats, but extremists on both sides who have invested a lot of emotion in fighting for what they believe is the "right" way, and there is no other way.

Unfortunately, they're the ones who get all the media coverage, because they're loud and visible. The biggest, loudest monkeys on the pile of crap. It's too bad. I still think that most people out there, the old "silent majority," are not bombastic nitwits, but reasonable and kind people who would like to figure out a way to make things work but there's nobody out there either listening to them or representing their opinions. Too bad.

Ironic you would say this in defense of a famously lawless, unethical, disrespectful person.

Nihilism and post modernism creating a toxic cultural soup. It could be excused if what emerged were beautiful and full of truth, but instead it's ugly, hateful and small - devoid of any real creative impulse or need to be greater than the average.

My intention was not a one sided thread but sadly it seems that's all
I have. Looks like another experiment of mine has failed miserably.
I don't know why D cowboy couldn't be wrong for once ( Damn you DC).
I think deep down he might even wish he was wrong this time. Any way if
this thread indicates that, at least it indicates something. That something is
very wrong.

And I'll be damned if it's DT. I would believe it's everyone around him and
all of us before I'd believe it's him. And that by no means says he's perfect.
I just don't see anyone even close to as good.

I don't this is about unity or compromise any more. They want to crush their enemies, to see them driven before them, and to hear the lamentations of the women (the white, Christian cis-het ones anyhow because they;'re willing tools of the patriarchal MAN, baby).

What do you mean? Are you saying that Trump isn't the best person ever? Well you're obviously suffering from a mental illness called TDS.

See how easy that makes everything for me? No thought required, just THE automatic response when my cognitive dissonance flares up.

It's the same sort of process that bigots use to never question their own bigotry. It's the same exact response religious people have when their beliefs are put into question, their brain shuts down and they mentally block out the information they don't want to hear.

But don't you dare call me a cult member or bigot!

I don't know a solution to a hopelessly corrupt system. Human nature will always gravitate toward money and power no matter who is in office. These politicians don't know you from Adam, they are so far removed from you that they don't care what happens to you.

We are a tribal species but the tribe has gotten too big so now corruption is the norm. The more you have of something the less you appreciate it. If we lived in smaller communities (like we were designed to do) then we would appreciate others more, but we have moved far beyond that point.

Politicians do what's good for their own "community" or family and they just follow the money. They couldn't give two craps about your vote, they have a few hundred thousand dollars in lobbying donations and backroom deals to honor. They'll pander to you though, that's for sure.

I realize it sounds dramatic but me for this proves one thing.
Let our hearts be vicious in our resolve for God hates corruption
and perversion. We shall be cruel to our enemy as they march
the road to the hell they so desire. When it finally does come to
Bare there should be no mercy offered no quarter given.

For decades, I have paid attention to how this game in DC gets played. There have been big compromises. The problem is that very often, one side gets the things it wants out of the compromise right away while the other side's benefits have a time frame of years down the road, meaning future Congresses must uphold them, and often, that never happens. The Reagan Amnesty was one like this. Had it been executed faithfully, we wouldn't be fighting over walls and border security. Those were the conservative side of the compromise ... and never delivered on. But the amnesty for illegals bit happened right away.

This is part of why people are wary of "deals" and "compromise". It feels like what's promised to us is that football Lucy holds for Charlie Brown.

Unity is a joke.

Or a name of some lady rap artist.

Or the name of a space ship.

Unity is not something we'll ever see again.

We're too divided as a nation. When one side wants open borders, banned guns, socialized medicine and schools, and the other side doesn't, then where's the common ground?

There isn't common ground.

When one side simply wants to abolish the electoral college and the other side wants a government to follow the Constitution, then where's the common ground?

Common ground, like Elvis, left the building a long time ago.

It's not even that man. I don't think we've EVER had unity.

I mean think about it. When in the entirety of human history has there ever been a utopian society? Where everyone is happy, and gets along with everyone else.

Never, that's when.

It's a pipe dream by those who cannot accept that humanity is a bunch of individuals. We always will be.

Which, BTW is the real reason Socialism consistently fails.

To be fair, when did we have unity? Id be just fine with agreeing to disagree. Id like to be allowed to have an independent opinion, not be told to be guilty of my race or gender or age, all things when I was a kid I don’t remember being an issue. Maybe my world was just to small then to recognize it, but those who are loudest about correcting others won’t listen to this viewpoint. a reply to: carsforkids

Were we united against England in 1776? I believe we were.
I would think we could still unite against home grown adversary.
That basically wants the same thing England wanted from the
colonies. In this world we know that freedom comes only from
blood. Like a God it must have it's sacrifice.
