Lightning Produces Black Halo??

Chuck Fehlis captured this image on his digital camera shortly before 11 a.m. today. It shows a black ring that National Weather Service officials first believed was a halo effect produced by the sun. The weather service later determined that an 'explosion caused by lightning' produced the ring.

what exactly is it, I mean is smoke or something like when you spark a match

Dragonrider sent this to me earlier yesturday morning, which was strange as I saw a similar photo in a magazine on Monday, think it was UFO magazine. It was more or less the same thing, but it a different place!

Has there been more than 1 sightings of this strange "smoke ring" object?

Interesting... taking in account that this was in conjuction with a lightning strike, that could have been caused by a device dropped from a aircraft which exploded to distribute chemicals to create the lightning bolt, thus creating the black smoke ring.
