I don't think this has ever been attempted before, so let's try it!

When it comes to politics, what are your main points?
What do you want to see from a politician?
What do you want to change/stay the same?

The main purpose of this thread is not to debate the individuals in charge at the moment, it's to debate the ideals behind what you want to see out of our politicians. Lets try to be civil (let's be real I placed it in the pit for a reason), and try to see what we can see on level grounds. Hash out the issues person to person (or bot to bot), come to a common ground, and maybe do something that the assholes that run this country cannot seem to do.

So what can we agree on ATS?

I'll start with saying I think social security and medicare need more funding. The people that payed into it and believed in it are not seeing what was promised.

I think wages are fine, as an individual that has been involved with cost offsetting, I can tell you any rise in wages multiplies by at least 2 in the overall consumer price index. If my labor goes up by 20% the price you pay will go up at least 10% to offset that.

I think healthcare is overpriced, it's a literal fact you can go abroad and pay pennies on the dollar for the same operation, look up hip replacements.

I think colleges need to be held to higher standards, if you want to sell someone a worthless degree at a price, you need to compensate that individual for at least 5 years compensation. Either that or stop selling degrees that offer no job potential.

I think we need to focus on skilled labor as much as the IT sector for jobs.

I think we need to focus on infrastructure. I also think that should be the responsibility of local government rather than federal.

I think we need to focus on eliminating career politicians. Term limits are applied to the president, why the eff are they not applied at the local/state level? 8 years is enough for a president, then it should be the same for ALL levels of government.

I hopefully welcome some real political discussion, and not partisan BS he says this she says that. This thread is NOT about that.

I don't care about your favorite politician, I care about hearing about YOUR policies, and what you think.

Hope it stays civil.

Off the top of my head:

Stop corruption
Secure the border
Keep the military strong
Phase out social security
Cut spending so the budget has a surplus
Deregulate

I'm curious of the phase out social security, that is actually one of the socialistic programs our country has that I agree with, rest I agree with you on.

Why eliminate social security?

Just as John Galt said in Atlas Shrugged, I'd like them to:

"Get the hell out of my way!"

So many reasons

1) The average person pays in ~290k and gets 270k paid out. If you indexed that portion of your money you'd retire with nearly 2 million. The program should be phased out in favor of an elective retirement savings program (ie, if I'm paying 5-10% into a 401k or IRA I don't have to pay social security tax but I am also unable to receive social security).

2) The program was a scam to start with. the age you could collect at was 65 and the average age of death was 62.

3) It was never meant to provide a retirement or even help in retirement for a decade. With the average lifespan being 78, that's 13 years of benefits needed. That's why the program is insolvent.

4) It's socialist. It doesn't cover hardly anything anyway.

To clarify, it would be a slow phase out, over probably 20 years or more. The benefits of phasing it out would be immense.

1. Absolutely unfettered, unchallenged, unrestricted MASS third world immigration (because that’s our strength)

2. More islam (because that’s how you improve western society and it’s also how you drop crime rates)

3. More tax. Much much more tax. (Because those who refuse to work should have the exact same income as those who work extremely hard)

4. Revolving door prisons (because everyone makes mistakes, no need to make them pay for it)

5. Elimination of all competitive sports (because they’re divisive and they shame people)

6. Impeach any and every politician who I didn’t personally vote for (because it’s not fair)

7. Designate any opinion that differs to mine, ‘hate speech’ and dole out punishment to those who commit that crime (because feelings over facts)

That was satire. Sorry.

Term limits, no lifetime benefits. Politicians follow the same laws as imposed on us(Obamacare). Follow the Constitution, not infringe it.

I want them to TRY VERY HARD to keep their campaign promises, like our non-politician President is doing.

Maybe to be a professional politician, you must promise the stars, even though you have no idea how to deliver?

Legalize all drugs.
Remove most laws from books.
No more new laws, regs, or policies.
Fire most govt workers and close most agencies.
Pay off debts, don't take any new loans.
Cut Pentagon and welfare funding by half at least in first term.
Seek constitutional reform by amending the Constitution to further limit the powers of all branches of govt.

Oh God, I could continue all night.

None of the candidates represent me currently. Guess I'll have to do it myself or bust.

Rand Paul sold out his dad, his own father, just to get in with the "cool" Republicans like Mitt Romney? Um what?

You support a guy that sold out his own dad to gain a few frivolous political points with the old guard??

He would sell any of us out in a heartbeat if it scored him a free drink, geez man how can you be so naive and gullible?

His own father...

I’ve hear that countless times i’ve even read opinion articles that claim the authors feelings are Ron Paul’s feelings .

Do you have a statement where Ron Paul said his son sold him out ?

BTW

I’ve supported Ron Paul since the 80s.

He was going nowhere in 2012 .

There’s an adage “ never bet on a loser “.

I think his dad was fine with it .

While I agree with you just about 100% this statement I disagree with

4) It's socialist. It doesn't cover hardly anything anyway.

It's actually their money, paid into the system, and no different than individuals paying into a 401k.

If we are to phase it out we would have to spend a ton of money that just isn't there, and it does benefit a large majority that just weren't fiscally responsible.

Social Security is actually one of the solvent branches of social care, and thats because legally it has to be.

In a nation of 330+ million can you really ween away from a taxed program that provides an income for the otherwise un-employable?

I am for restructuring of social security, but not the elimination of it, because plain and simple people are stupid and will take an extra dollar a week over it going to retirement.

Of course Ron was going nowhere in 12, his own son went and backed Romney.

And after what Trump said about Ron, I've considered him an establishment puppet ever since...

The only reason I tolerate (ok sometimes enjoy) our Trump presidency is simply because I love watching liberals cry and scream (from a distance).

But really, as entertaining all this has been, I still would prefer liberty as promised by our founding documents.

Our judicial and executive and legislative branches have proven to me they don't understand natural rights or liberty, and to them it's all a big game with $$$ and ego-trips.

So sick of govt. Lol

We are stuck in a social security economy and it'd take at least 2 generations (40 to 50 years) to phase it out properly without screwing a bunch of ppl.

As it is now, I am actually going to be on disability. Yes, ironic that one.

My spine is broken and my 3 doctors all agreed that I could be paralyzed any day now and any stresses from lifting or moving wrong can finalize that.

I walk a lot still, and enjoy it, because I know my miles are limited so I'm savoring every step, even the missteps.

I can do jobs that don't require back or legs but these desk jobs are difficult to attain due to my lack of paper qualifications.

Anyways, point is, I see things from a new perspective now.

Should I be a homeless bum because of an injury? Starve, freeze, hate everything?

Or would you rather live in a world where a greater society saved my life and gave me the resources I need to have shelter and food and medical care?

You know my grandparents paid into this system for years and years - only to have all their blood sweat and tears thrown away on foreigners that hate our nation and way of life? Yours too probably.

And we were all robbed. With nothing to show for it. All those tax dollars were wasted on frivolous bs.

So even if y'all don't like it that I'm going to legitimately recover my family's stolen wealth by using my status as a injured human with no chance of recovery, I'm going to get my $.

The mountain of money is on fire, of course I'm grabbing my stack before it's all gone. You'd be a fool not to.

I'm just a lil peeved that all these abusers ruined the system and now I'm faced with being ashamed of seeking disability assistance.

In a lot of ways I know I earned every penny and then more because I busted my ass daily for years knowing I'd never get anywhere but I did it anyway.

So please keep social security. Without it my future will be extremely tragic. A few hundred $ a month changes everything.

I'm pretty sure the Libs will accept anyone so long as it's "Not Orange".

They'd probably even accept a ragdoll or a cute puppy as president.
