So this article caught my eye and well it must have been some burrito.

NOVEMBER 25--An Arizona felon is back behind bars following his arrest last Saturday night on a grand theft burrito charge, cops report.

According to investigators, Timothy Bell, 29, approached a man on a Phoenix street and “took that person’s property by force” while making “threatening statements.”

The stolen property, a felony complaint states, was a “burrito, of a value less than $1000.”

Grand Theft burrito!

Hey man?

Whatchu in for ?

Gran theft buritto.

That's nice.

I needed a good laugh after last week.

I was going to post a song from X-Cops( a derivative of GWAR,) but I won't. The song has to do with barbells.

I would be curious to know his past history of incarceration. Some people are so damaged that prison is a life of security, 3 sq a day. Do time get out, commit low level crime go back in.

Ok people.

When did burritos start costing $1000 ?

If they are that much.

I'm gonna open a taco bell.

It doesn't. It says of a value less than $1,000. So I actually pictured a Chipotle-snatching.

I thought grand theft is over that amount.

Not under it.

That's actually a valid point.

"Grand" Theft is over a certain amount, not under.

Maybe they were making a clever play with the headline instead of aiming for legal accuracy?

Entirely possible. Fine line though. May not happen here, but the clever wording, if that's what it was, could wind up setting up a Libel case.

Then the headline would read...

"Dirtbag Repeat Offender Wins Millions in Libel Case"

...or...

"Burrito Bandit Bell Buys Taco Bell"

Ah, stupidity in charging offenses, will it never end? Is there a convicted felon escalation clause in the law?
Wonder if the victim was disabled/over 65? Extenuating circumstances lead to weird charges.
Grand theft seems like a stupid charge BUT it might be an easier case than robbery & felony threatening.
If a weapon were involved, would it really matter if the burrito cost $1000 or $1?

However,
at least it's something different
than the usual culture war banter.

wow..for real? Id've just given him the burrito, and doubt I would've called the cops unless it was violent. Good point about maybe just wanting to go back in. He doesn't look particularly upset in the mugshot, if that's the most recent one.
